Monty the Spartan
Good to see the NIU head coach sitting in the MSU cheering section decked out in his Spartan green today.

Are you seriously trying to say there is something wrong with that?

No kidding. What’s wrong with that? His alma mater and his wives as well, that also employed him for ten years was playing in a championship an hour away. You must not associate with any organization that does not employ you professionally.

Maybe Izzo will be impressed with his continuing and unfaltering fandom and loyalty and offer him a good job. We can only hope.

Probably a long shot that Temple fires their coach for only being an 11th seed and hires Monty huh...?

Its not acceptable, Im sorry after your coaching days fine, go back on campus do the frat party thing, do all the alumni events, fine. While you are employed by another Div 1 basketball program, your public appearances should ALWAYS be representing the team you are employed by. It is embarrassing and a disgrace. Plus you add this on top of the recent article saying he regretted coming to NIU, its time to move on. So sick of this. He is the modern day Al Bundy from Married With Children. Put on your big boy pants and start living in the now. Try to give back to the school giving you hundreds of thousands of dollars a year to advance THEIR program.

I don't really care, I knew he gave up on NIU a long time ago from that recent article. Its just save the green MSU jogging outfit for your mancave in the privacy of your own home. NIU fans do not need the public constant reminder he could not care less at this point. The recent article changes the optics on this, big time.

MaddDawgz,
You absolutely crazy. Love your passion for NIU but the coach hating is a little over the top. It is just a matter of time before you start hating Hammock for some asinine reason. Nobody is a perfect coach or human being.

Did people not like Doreen and his family wearing NIU gear and cheering for NIU at the Orange Bowl? He was already NC St coach and being paid by them. Michael Jordan who was made famous as a Chicago Bull and received millions from the people of Illinois famously wearing his North Carolina gear and giving them a pep talk in their title game against Illinois. Now if I was Monty I would’ve worn my NIU gear and cheered on MSU. I don’t hold that against him or care that he wanted to wear his green on St. Patrick’s day.

Completely different situations, Doeren was between jobs, and with Jordan you are talking collegiate vs pro, big big difference. NIU and Michigan State are both Div 1 basketball programs. To root with pom poms for another Div 1 program when you are coaching a different program is highly bad optics, and embarrassing.

I supported Monty for the most part until the MSU article came out. To openly admit you regret coaching the team that is employing you is a smack in the face to the program and probably damages recruiting efforts. I am not expecting Monty to be perfect, but not to OPENLY admit you regret coming to NIU and wish you would have stayed at MSU. The amount of attempted blame shifting in that article was so disappointing to see. Its fine to think that, but share that with family and friends, do not air it openly for the world to see.

If Hammock attends Gopher games dressed in Gopher gear, yes I will be criticizing that too.

I just want Monty to get a new job and leave town. If it takes him wearing his MSU clothes or even clothes from Bemidgi State University, I don't care as long as it gets him out of DeKalb before STFrazier extends his contract once again (if he already hasn't).

I’m going to give you a clue—-other than the few on this board, I’m pretty sure nobody noticed, nor cares. I did a quick search of espn and CBS this morning and there is not even a blurb that said the Northern Illinois basketball coach was at a game 70 miles away from his campus. I’m pretty sure we will get to see Magic Johnson somewhere along the tournament trail and he’s got a pretty good mess on hands that he is managing. (Now IF these games were in New York City and IF NIU had a chance to get an invite to one of those non-descript tourneys, yes, Monty should have been back practicing—-but I am pretty sure that all of the CBI/CIT matchups had been set earlier in the weekend as there is a game tonight....Monty knew the season is over).

Just something feels off when literally 1 month ago he was featured in an article saying he wished he would have stayed at MSU and regrets taking a job at a school where he can't win. If that doesn't bother people, well I just don't know what to say. Basketball obviously isn't a high priority to you, which is fine. It is embarrassing and reflects very poorly on the program.
