I watch a lot of Big East basketball up here and St. John's and Buffalo are pretty much identical teams. If they get to play each other that should be an entertaining game, scores approaching 90. Then the winner of that game has to play probably the best defensive team in the country in Texas Tech----that will be a contrast. Let the real fun begin. Kind of a downer on how Marquette ended the season up here---but we do know that Marquette was the only non-MAC team to beat Buffalo this season!!!
Buffalo is considerably deeper than St. John's. St. John's suffers from the same thing that all of the Big East teams suffer from, they are like 1 deep at each position. If any of their main guys goes down or plays terribly (like, not just Shamorie Ponds) then they really struggle.
Buffalo should be able to win this game easily, but there is always the Ponds factor and he can be a game changer.
Wow you have a lot of faith is Buffalo. I think they might be a little overrated this year, but I hope I’m proven wrong. Our huskies are no St. John’s or Arizona State and we beat Buffalo. They’re going to have to sell me before I hop the Cinderella bandwagon.

I'm hoping you watched that St. John's/Arizona State tilt and you'll see that my comments weren't necessarily a glowing endorsement for Buffalo as it was pointing out that St. John's simply isn't very good. They have major weaknesses in their depth and when one starter is struggling or missing, the entire team struggles. It doesn't even have to be the star Ponds. That team is simply not that great.
And to be honest, Arizona State isn't that good either.

Found this interesting from the MAC board:
(03-21-2019 08:09 AM)kreed5120 Wrote: The at-large play-in opponents have actually done quite well in the round of 64. I went ahead and looked backed to 2014 and the 11 seed has won 5 out of the 10 games. History suggests an 11 seed should only have a 37.5% chance of beating a 6. The play-in opponents are outperforming those numbers.
I've heard that some actually view the play-in game as an advantage, not disadvantage. The 11 seed already has a game on the big stage under their belt so will come out loose instead of coming out looking like a deer in headlights. Also, having a week off can make some teams rusty.
2018

2017
USC
2016
Wichita State
2015
Dayton
2014

If that trend were to continue, it should definitely be Belmont with the win. Belmont is playing well and Maryland is slumping. Plus, Arizona State sucks.
Adjust your brackets accordingly.

Ouch. My old eyes aren't what they used to be, especially with those little shaded numbers on the scoreboard. Thanks for correcting, golf4501. So to start over the list, we have...
#10 Minnesota over #7 Louisville
#12 Murray State over #5 Marquette

Auburn was super lucky to win that game. 78% free throw shooter was 1 of 3 at the end and the guy on NMS passed up an open layup (down 2) right before that to pass to the 3 pt shooter. Crazy ending.
