Buffalo with the 6 Seed
Highest seeded MAC team I’ve ever seen. I’m impressed but sad we’re not getting a post season and we beat them. Grrrrrr

That's a good point.
Saw on the Selection Show that Buffalo was the 23rd overall seed. That is definitely too low.

Nice side---probably correct.
I watch a lot of Big East basketball up here and St. John's and Buffalo are pretty much identical teams. If they get to play each other that should be an entertaining game, scores approaching 90. Then the winner of that game has to play probably the best defensive team in the country in Texas Tech----that will be a contrast. Let the real fun begin. Kind of a downer on how Marquette ended the season up here---but we do know that Marquette was the only non-MAC team to beat Buffalo this season!!!

RE: Buffalo with the 6 Seed
Obviously the NET rankings, which the NCAA claimed would be the true ranking for the tournament, was a sham as Buffalo was 16 and St Johns was seventy something and should not be in the tournament. The big ten is so overated and has twice the number of teams in than they should. Unfortunately it is about name recognition and long time overrated coaches.
GO HUSKIES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and go Bulls.

16 should be good for a 4 seed.
But 23rd overall (barely in the Top 25) and a 6 seed is what was bestowed by those in their Ivory Tower.

RE: Buffalo with the 6 Seed
No, the NCAA never claimed the NET would be the true ranking for the tournament. All the NET ranking did was replace the RPI, which was never the sole determining factor and was only one of a number of tools used to select and seed teams.
Buffalo was a 6 seed in the Bracket Matrix. They ended up right about where most people had them slated. They maybe had a case for a 5, but lots of teams have cases for a seed one higher than they got. As was pointed out, a 6 also has the advantage of not being in the same half of the region as the 1 seed. In the history of the expanded tournament, 6 seeds have reached the Sweet 16 nearly as often as the 5 seeds (46-42) but have made the Elite 8 nearly *twice* as often (14-8) because they avoid the 1 seeds until then.
I really like the draw they got, they’re clearly better than either play-in team they can get and Texas Tech can have issues scoring. They can win that game.

Buffalo should be a 5 probably at worst, but I agree, their path is a really good one for them. Really a great shot for the Elite 8.

In addition to the above with the NET rating having Buffalo as a 4-seed, RPI has the Bulls as a 3-seed, the KenPom rating does have Buffalo as a 6-seed.
It's clear that RPI no longer served the Cartel's agenda, which is why it was abandoned. But this first year of the NET didn't cooperate as they wanted so the Cartel clearly marginalized it despite claiming that it would play a larger role than it did. Fully expect NET to be "tweaked" for the upcoming season(s) until they "get it right" (everyone knows what that means).
Regardless of favorability of path, Buffalo was under-seeded by the Committee.

Buffalo is considerably deeper than St. John's. St. John's suffers from the same thing that all of the Big East teams suffer from, they are like 1 deep at each position. If any of their main guys goes down or plays terribly (like, not just Shamorie Ponds) then they really struggle.
Buffalo should be able to win this game easily, but there is always the Ponds factor and he can be a game changer.

Fair enough--and in reality, St. John's is probably most comparable to LAST year's Buffalo team....but they do mirror each other.
And, of course, who wouldn't want to see Bobby Hurley and Arizona State against Buffalo? Intriguing match up in either case---I just think a lot of people are falling for Buffalo being the trendy pick after next year when in reality, both matchups are very, very intriguing.

Saw on the Selection Show that Buffalo was the 23rd overall seed. That is definitely too low.
They will get upset first round

I’d like to see them play Hurley’s ASU. Buffalo would most certainly be pumped to beat his team.

Buffalo could take on BOTH Arizona St and St. John's, 5-on-10, and win.
Neither of those teams deserved a bid.
