Not many.

I know right? Coach of the Year... Wins the Conference Regular Season and Conference Tournament. What more must he do???

I already anticipate by the time we hear "One Shining Moment" this year, the pitchfork crew will be back out.
They'll chant "1,2,3,4...Only One NCAA birth in 8 Years!!!"

Yay, Activists!

The pitchfork crew will definitely return. Just sharpening their tines for now. Your post will age well.

This is a ******* message board and every body with an opinion will say what they know and feel like and it doesn't mean one is better than other unless your objectives and interests lineup with someone else's in which you might feel they are making sense. There are whole bunch of people with an array of goals and where they'd like ODU to be so it is what it is. If the majority of the fan base is happy with the coach then who cares what the small percentage folks who aren't happy think. Like i said this is an appreciation thread and so i will just appreciate the good job he has done so far this season and move on. I wish him good health and hope he can fend off the evil cancer.
Bingo.

JJ did a great job this year, but I'd like to either make a lot of noise or get here more than once in 8 years.

That said, beat Purdue and beat cancer.

As expected I don't think ESPN 94.(2nd class announcer) even reached out to Coach or ODU for an interview before they departed for Hartford. I don't they "Nick the Blow Toad" has had even more than a mention about ODU's accomplishment and the enormous amount of success this team has achieved.

CUSA Player of the Year
CUSA Coach of the year
4th year with 25+ wins in a season with Jones (4 out of 6)
CUSA Tournament MVP
CUSA regular season winner
CUSA Tournament winner
CUSA 2 players making the 1st team
Winner of (than ranked Syracuse) in Syracuse and now a #8 seed in the Tournament
Winner of the VCU game and a #8 seed in the Tournament
Beat a very talented WKU team 3 times in one season

IMO if ODU could pull off a few upsets in the Tournament Jones should be in consideration as National COY.

NO Cattles info on the making of the NCAA tournament and any pre game hype for our game against Purdue on Thursday in the 1st round of the NCAA Tournament.

What a joke he is (Nick Cattles the azz clown) ..…..04-chairshot
As usual Nick is better at avoiding ODU's success than ever trying to promote them. He lives in his little bubble of a world...……….loser.

Just my 2 cent... carry on.

Hey OldTimer,

Recommend you stop tuning into 94.1 when the game isn't on. I switched to podcasts and haven't looked back. When I accidentally tune in for a few seconds, I realize how amatuerish the guy sounds. The fact that the local radio host can't talk about ODU sports is all you need to know. Stop supporting him by tuning in... look elsewhere for sports news.

If you are going to listen to 94.1, just tune in at 6. Matt Hatfield will talk ODU hoops.

Also give the other sports radio a listen AM850/Fm96.5 Bob Matthews talks ODU hoops regularly and was a strong proponent of more at-large bids for mid-majors. His show runs 3-5PM

That is great news! Although the job is stressful, I’m sure these young fellas with so many hopes and dreams provide him so much energy and life

Talking about ODU more in Richmond right now than they are there. At least from what I've heard the last few days

I read later this evening that Coach Jones said he was coaching the Monarchs next year. It is a little more definitive than the other implied comments he made previously.

Lets just say either his health is better or this team has changed his mond. Or he convinced his wife. Either way, good news for us.

I appreciate what Coach Jones and the team did this year. Clicked some things off the to do list for sure. Now it’s time to turn the page to next year. I hope we can secure a few more shooters . And some inside scoring. We can teach them to play defense but we need some offensive help bad.

Well, it ended sooner than we would have liked, but thanks for a great year, Coach. Let's do it again next year! Cheers, and Go Monarchs!

RE: Jeff Jones Appreciation Thread
I used to be a good judge of the college basketball landscape...maybe I still am but can see my grasp slipping from time to time. As I get older I realize the importance of several things; (1) Family and friends, (2) Effort, and (3) Lighten up. From what I’ve seen, JJ seems to have (1) and (2) covered. The challenge is to work on (3). Who knows, the next ODU coach may just be out there learning his trade while observing how WE operate. Just a thought...

While not perfect (life never is), I’m satisfied with our year. Think about it, I don’t recall suspensions or bickering, by all accounts the team got along well, we won the regular season and conference tournament, our seniors will graduate, the team and coach got their due recognition, and somehow we got to dance. Enjoy it for what it is! Life is never perfect.

Oh, most importantly, to JJ and OUR team...thank you!
