And if they are, is one day's rest going to help that much? Even if it does, that only covers our round 1 game... to get to the second weekend we're going to have to play back to back tough games against quality teams

Houston looked whooped too, as I said. It's a long season and UC relies on 6 guys largely. I'm most concerned with Cumberland, who is constantly getting pounded around screens and going to the rim. It's more the mileage of playing in a game. It's cumulative and tiring. He's going to play 30+ minutes and will have to suck it up, but I wonder if it's worth it.

I swear there was a point yesterday when Jarron got hit by a moving screen yesterday and he responded by shoving his man a few feet back. There was no call. It's so weird.

The refs in both semi-final games were very inconsistent (same refs?). They followed the same pattern, call very little in the first half, call everything early in the second and then stop calling as much later into the 2nd half.

Our best chance against Houston is that the refs call a tight game throughout, Houston fouls on virtually every defensive possession, they especially like to grab and hold when their man goes around a screen (Martin was getting bothered by it in the semis). Hope the refs call it and keep calling it throughout the game.

Nice couple of postseason wins against decent teams.

The Cats are playing on vapors. A win tomorrow would be a great reward for a stellar season. Either way we should be pleased. Need to build on this season for next. I expect bigger things in 2020

Much better year than I expected. Very proud of this team.

Brooks is getting a lot better at finishing around the rim, and although he's not the scorer KW was, he's still pretty good.
Scott isn't Clark, but he makes some crazy athletic plays and keeps his wits about him at the same time. I wish Keith Williams would be more of a factor, but he's already pretty good for a Sophomore. Broome and Jenifer didn't light it up yesterday like the day prior, but they're still very good at what they do. Just can't believe just how much Jenifer has improved on offense.

I will say though, I notice both our PG's(nominally, I know Cumberland takes most of the possessions) despite having good scoring ability, lack in the ability to defend longer, more athletic guards. I hope Johnson gets his shot to respectable form next season. I have the feeling we'd greatly benefit.

Agreed, Brooks seems to have figured out how to finish around the basket. Cumberland/Brooks are also starting to master the two man screen and roll game. Brooks isn't the scorer that KW was, but he is a better overall player. Can dominate the glass, set screens and defend far better then KW ever did.

Scott is not really in the same mold as Clark. Offensively he seems much more comfortable facing the basket then he is with his back to the basket. He needs to work on his shot over the off-season. Start hitting 3's and jump shots more consistently and it will become easier for him to drive to the basket. He can make a big jump next year.

They've combined for at least 20 points in our last few games.

If I'm Mick, I tell Jenifer there will always be a coaching position here for him if he wants it. His improvement and development as a player has been a shining example of this programs player development. Would love to have him as a coach working with guys on 3-point shooting and telling them how hard they need to work to continue to improve.

Next season we will miss Jenifer and Broome, but we will be a much more athletic team. Our shortest player who gets minutes will be 6'3" and our starters (assuming Cumberland is at point and Moore/Fredericks is the 5th starter) will all be at least 6'5". Should make our D and rebounding even better and allow us more freedom to switch without worrying about bad matchups.

Hadn't thought about this but I agree. Jenifer is a great example of what hard work and a good attitude can do. If he is interested in coaching I'd find him a spot.

RE: UC-Wichita State Game thread
Reporting from Memphis, definitely not our best basketball of the season, but as a fan of another team told me "i'd be glad to trade places with you". Scott, JJ and Broome have definitely stepped up down here and given us a lift. We let WS back in the game yesterday basically because we switched back from using the 2 pg's to beat them off the dribble and create to leaning on JC for the last 6 minutes which by now and after 3 meetings meets with mixed success. Hoping we give Houston a run for their money today. They were definitely beatable yesterday if Memphis had anyone other than Martin who could make a basket. Either way, great job getting to the finals again particularly in what most saw as a rebuilding year. Let's do this.

Thanks for the update from the venue.
Spouse and I actually gave some thought to hopping in the car this morning and heading down but our old bones didn't think getting home at 2 a.m. would make for a productive monday.

Hopefully some of the younger ones might've road-tripped down to Memphis for today's game. Also hoping the Memphis fans in attendance might pull for the underdog Bearcats and help give the guys a boost.

I know fans want to win, but I'm thinking tomorrow is a good game to get the backups some big game experience and the starters some rest. This game won't effect our NCAA tournament seed and our starters are tired. Let the backups play big minutes and bring the starters in if it's still close with 10 minutes left. I doubt it will happen because our players want the tournament championship and to get revenge against Houston, but NCAA tournament wise we are probably playing for nothing tomorrow.

I'm gonna vote this as the dumbest damn comment of the year....04-cheers

Agreed... I love conference championships. Especially with our shortcomings over the years in the big tournament, getting conference championships is still a nice litlle prize to get.

Jenifer can start "coaching" right now. We got this guy named Trevor Moore who is doing the exact same thing that Jenifer did last season (ergo not shoot). Whatever Jenifer did to get over that he needs to impart on Moore. He's got a good shot but he's so gun shy that he's never ready to shoot when he gets the ball. On top of that, i swear he seems to LOSE confidence when he makes one. if Jenifer can coach Moore up, that would be huge for Cincy.

Sub 30% 3 point shooter in two seasons here...I'm good with him not shooting.

For the moment, sure. But eventually we're going to need his contribution. Also going to need Williams to step up. Luckily there's the off season for that.

RE: UC-Wichita State Game thread
In our NCAA games hope Fredericks and Moore come up with some effort points off rebounds and defense but not comfortable when I see them taking threes.

For next year I really think Fredericks might surprise and have a productive year. Moore is just a puzzle and not sure if he will ever come around; most of us hoped he would become a Field Williams type off the bench.

Confidence is a big issue to performance, Trevon seems to have it now. I have been guilty in wanting him to be slower on the trigger at times but he has turned it up big recently. If he keeps up his performance and Williams gets back to being productive we could come up big in the tournament.

He needs to shoot. Doesn't necessarily mean treys but it's clear that he isn't confident going to the hole or pulling up for a mid-range. it was referenced in another thread that we were playing 4 v. 5 on offense when he was in the lineup. The same could be said about Jenifer last season. Jenifer has stepped up his game in big moments and has been a more consistent shooter in general. Need Moore to do the same, if not during the Tourney, at least next season.
