Personally, I'm not crazy about giving up a home game. If we were to play, I'd rather work out a deal for a set number of games at each campus.

How would we give up a home game? Don't they want to play once in Hattiesburg and once in Mobile? Did I read it wrong? Don't they want Mobile to count as their home game?

Sorry, didn't read the article before I posted. I took it to mean that it would be a single game played in Mobile, which would basically mean we'd lose a home game.

Big E, you make a good point. However, kids who come to Southern Miss do so with the hopes of playing Alabama, Nebraska, LSU and as the case will be in 2005, Auburn. You know, playing the schools they felt like should have recruited them, but probably did not. Troy State won't fill the stadium either or get us on ESPN or ESPN 2. It is those games with the SEC or Big 12 that get us national recognition and I believe, despite losing many times, gets us the national respect we won't get with a Troy State game. Just my thoughts, but lets fill the schedule with teams that will be a benefit to us in terms of respect, attendance, recruiting, etc.

I agree It does little to helpus to Schedule Troy, but, we like to have a team like that on our schedule from time to time (see ULL) They make a good homecoming opponent, and a Virtual Home game in Mobile does have benefits, Mobile is too close of a Market for USM to not Hammer, we should own Mobile, and by playing there it will only help garner more fans and help recruiting. Heck I think we should play one game every ferw years somewhere on the Miss Gulf Coast.

I think we should play them just because they called us out. We can't go against our own philosophy just because they aren't a big time school.

Plus, Troy is getting better. Pretty soon, they'll be the power of the Sun Belt.

Hey Guys,

two good posts. I can see benefits to playing in the area, maybe a recruiting tool. You are right, maybe putting a whipping on them will show them just how far they have to go before they spout off again! 03-wink
