All I know is that he is not good at what he’s been hired to do.

This past week was nice but it doesn’t change my view of him.

X2. You would think they made the Final Four of the Big Dance with the way people were acting these past 24 hours.

When you have not advanced to the semi's in 16 years, it is a big deal. I'm glad people got excited for a short time. It has been so long since fans were excited to see a game, it was needed. I agree about Montgomery though. You cannot let 4 games have more weight than several years in evaluating him.

Extended is more likely.

Yep. Now we just need to sit back, relax, and wait for the Star to do its investigation.

RE: mbb vs bgsu at QLA
It was great to get genuinely excited about a men's hoops game last night. I won't get into it, but so frustrating not able to watch it after watching virtually every game this season. When BDubs can't get the game you know you are in trouble. Team showed major grit to come back from 23 points. German was clearly on a "I do not get respect" mission. I love the intensity.

My sum of the season is a scrappy team that achieved much less than their potential. This is the frustration capper to the season. Team had much more talent than the record indicates.

Exactly. Why is everyone happy with so many consecutive seasons of losing basketball? One winning season doesn’t change the overall picture.

How long did it take Coach Novak to turn our Football program around?

Jaylen Key is the replacement for Bradley. Key actually looked much better in Cleveland than he had. Before he got hurt he was slightly better than Bradley. They must find another pure scorer

OMG STFU. How would you like to run an MBB program that all of sudden players allowed to transfer somewhere else. Fuuuuk. I dare ANYONE to give me a stat that MBB coaches hire/fire shift just as much FOotball since the new rule. It’s cuz the rule is fuking dumb and serves schools like the Alabama Fuks. They decide what they want.

Whoa back at ya!! "run an MBB program that all of sudden players allowed to transfer somewhere else." Hold the presses---the soul of what should have been the foundation of THIS YEAR'S team---Porter, Wilson, Pauga---did not transfer anywhere---they don't even play basketball anymore.....that was all created and solely the responsibility of Montgomery who not only recruited them all but more importantly created the CULTURE the past years that doesn't foster responsibility, doesn't back responsibility, nor enforces responsibility....how many times was German in the news on the wrong side of the police blotter this year? Four? What did we see...a game suspension here, an extra three minutes there.

Tommy is leaving the program---if anyone thinks German is staying, I'm 100% on the opposite side.

Here we are exalting a 17-17 team because we won two games in the conference tournament. That's great--and it's fun to watch---but to take the sample size of two over a seven-year year reign is way, way too shortsided.

These last say even three years cannot be blamed on some NCAA rule. Not a chance.

Seriously? I was so hoping no one would try to compare Monty's record against Novak's. First of all, basketball is much easier to turn around than football. All you have to do is get one or two guys who are better than most in the conference.

Coach Joe had 7 winning seasons out of 12 and had a team ranked #12 in the country. Monty has had one winning season out of 8 and has never won the MAC. If someone can tell me another coach in D1 that has a worse record than that I'd like to know.

STFU? I won't and I also won't ask that of you.

What I will ask is for you to present your case that MM has been even an "average" D1 recruiter and teacher of the game of basketball over these past 7 years.

And please don't resort to the transfer rant, duly noted. ( Oh and yes 03-shhhh....we know there's also rampant payola going on with the big boys but let's focus on just being a solid mid-major D1 program for now.)

Not necessarily. Oldtimers such as yours truly can recall some big NIU wins vs. BG.

-- 1982 MAC semis. Fantastic individual play by Allen Rayhorn eliminates BG en route to the Huskies' first NCAA appearance (we've been there 3 times since BG has been).

1983 Homecoming. NIU football down 20-0 at BG at the half, rallies to beat BG 24-23, helping pave the way for a MAC championship and California Bowl win.

2002. BG comes into Huskie Stadium nationally ranked, only to lose to NIU in the biggest Huskie Stadium crowd to that date (student section sellout -- imagine that!)

2004: Friday night, BG comes to DeKalb as the MAC favorite, and maybe even nationally ranked. NIU wins in Garrett Wolfe's first great game.

Who is the "kid from Georgia"?

They've got 2 freshman coming in next year. One from Bolingbrook and the other form Streamwood. There's a possibility of a Croatian dude who's playing in Highland as a JUCO transfer.

Who is this kid from Georgia you speak of?

If Monty leaves. Where will German go? What’s left without German next year?
Rebuilding which means at least another 3 years of what we old guys have been seeing for 15 years....?

As great as the comeback was to watch Friday not, equally as painful was watching the team fall apart in the last 6 minutes of the 1st half...a 22-2 run or something like that? And no timeout taken, nothing done. As much as I continue to want Monty to success, in both micro-level games and macro-level season stretches, he just does not seem to have the ability to pump the brakes when things are starting to go downhill. If the 22-2 runs were 14-2 runs instead, if the 7 game losing streaks were 3 games losing streaks, etc...if the bad wasn't just so bad, you'd feel good about where this program is at.

"All you really had to say was "the redshirt freshman" "

Why redshirt him? A freshman comes to NIU as says 'I want to be here 5 years'!
'I'm a slow learner and it take me 5 years to get up to speed'!
German led the MAC in scoring in his sophomore year.
How'd red-shirting Marin work out? Ask Depaul.
Would McCarty be better if he had red-shirted? Now that is funny!

red-shirting is certainly more rare in basketball, but still depends, assuming he was going to be below james/noah/bradley/key on the depth chart, then red-shirting makes sense, if he was substantially better than 3 or 4 of them, then yeah, surprised he didn't play.
