Good game huskies. Your team has some good players who came ready tonight. There are some teams I have character issues with and NIU is not one of them. Not a fan of your coach though, but that's for another day... Beating you twice was lucky. Good luck the rest of the way. Non rivals or nobody!! Beat BG or BSU. Can't stand either!

Out of curiosity, I'd love to know what Monty did to make someone from Toledo not like him...

He wanders and gets out of his coaching box a lot. It seems like its always the refs and not his guys being naughty. Not specifically tonight but our students always have a field day with how far he goes on the court. He also yells during foul shots to his players at Savage.... I've never liked that.

Now I'm disappointed I asked. I thought it was going to be something interesting or, at the very least, something that would be unique to Monty.

LOL!! That’s hysterical. All the stupid crap done and it’s geographical. 90% of college coaches yell during opposing foul shots even yours and your women’s coach.

I have to agree. Even after coaching for years, he still seems to want to be on the court. I think there is a lot to be said for coaching in practice and letting them play in the game. I am not saying you don't coach during the game-- but the players have to know that it is on them - and to look to each other to get it done-- not to hesitate and look at coach. Just my observation.
(e.g., there is a huge difference between the coach standing up to call a play, or to call for a change in defense, than a coach running along the side line yelling "pass to this guy!" ) One is coaching. The other is a wannabe player, or just not right IMHO, but I could be wrong. If I am, I apologize, Monty. Congrats on a great win. The guys played well.)

The players don't like it either. I have seen them give a disgusted look and shake their heads. But, this not being the most disciplined group, maybe they need it.

90% seems high because I sat next to the opposing bench for 5 years and 2 guys come to mind. Monty, and Hurly. That's it. But I digress.

I can’t think of a better reason to dislike a guy than (checks notes) him not staying in the coaching box lol

Only 5 years. Been doing it my entire career. You should lock in on more of what coaches do and don’t do. This goes beyond the MAC.
Yelling, whistle assistants yelling out offensive sets.
If that upsets you then it does. IMO there is a helluva lot more done that’s much worse than straying outside the box on the court or being loud during a free throw.

Yeah that one checks it at #37 on my list of "Things I don't like about MM as NIU's Head Basketball Coach".
#1: Inability to inbound the ball against full court pressure.
(As evidenced last night and often during the season at the end of close games with the lead.)

This list could be fun.
#1: No MAC championships (til this year?)
#2: Not offering Zion a scholarship.
#3: Not getting MSU-Izzo to the convo one time.
#4: Standing outside the coaching box.
#5: Inability to inbound the ball against full court pressure.
#6: Yelling during other team's free throws.
#7: Showing his team how to get in a defensive stance during the games.

Having true freshmen inbound ball again after showing he was a deer in the headlights the first time.

Thanks. I'm surprised we got Toledo twice this year. Especially at a neutral site in a close game. They had to play really well to manage that.

What does "we got Toledo twice this year" mean? Last night was the only time we beat them this year.

Whoops, I was thinking of someone else we beat this year, not Toledo.

A lot of insight can be gleaned from those interactions (maybe all the insights needed). VERY publicly treating your players like idiot children hardly garners their respect and very might well do the exact opposite.
IMO MM's problem in a nut shell is the players don't play for him, he doesn't inspire them, he doesn't bring out their best.
IMO if the players are not doing what MM expects during game time it highlights a failure of MM, not the players.
You'd have to pay me A LOT of money to work for a boss like MM, the very impetus for work place violence treating your workers like idiots and publicly rebuking them. Visions of glory and a scholarship may be the only thing keeping one of his players from choking him.
Gino comes back if he and MM have a good relationship. Gino's off court antics tells me he does not have respect for MM or the team.
