Is the pod system helpful?
Already rumblings that we (Sun Belt) may back out of doing pods next year as we had agreed previously to do. Just interested in your thoughts on how it worked in CUSA this year

RE: Is the pod system helpful?
Didn't hurt. I think it would help more if there were a dominant team or two. We really need to step it up OOC for anything in-conference to matter.

RE: Is the pod system helpful?
There was some metrics on twitter somewhere I cant recall where I saw it.
The average jump in SOS for the top POD was something like +25 numbers
I think the second POD also saw a jump in SOS.
Its not a terrible idea but you really need a solid number one team for it to work better. This year no one wanted to win the conference haha

As is I'm not a fan. We don't get home and home with some natural geographic rivals and the conference regular season is decided without teams having to make return games. I just don't think it works well with a 14 team conference. Would prefer to have scheduling agreements with other conferences to have our top teams play home and home after the conference schedule.

IMO it made the regular season 10 times more interesting.

Seemed to hurt attendance at some schools who got the short end of the best home dates down the stretch.

Ask again after NCAA bracket comes out to see where our champ is seeded.

I’m convinced it’s the right way to go but most of the scenarios where it would help the most didn’t line up this year (we were uncharacteristically balances this year as a conference)

I really like that the pods that mattered most (1 & 3) were able to settle the scores based on head to head play down the stretch

Too soon to tell. Use this system two more seasons then keep, tweak, or discard.

I don't think anything works well with a 14 team conference.

But I do like the pods concept. I guess we'll need a little larger sample size to see if it's worth it.

Even if it ultimately turns out to not accomplish anything, I think it adds excitement to the final four games. I like it.

True it did create more interest than we have had in years.

A rice fan and i disussed earler on a womens thread, if that side had used the pod system it would have helped. The rpi's on the girls side was what they were hopng for on the mens.

I like it for now. Give it a few years and see how it plays out. At least we're willing to try something new.
