For W&M the style of their next coach will have quite the influence on whether players stay or go knowing their coach won't be coaching somewhere else.
We've experienced it all here. Keatts scenario, Jerry scenario, Brownell scenario, Buzz scenario, Benny scenario. The only two transtions where we ended up "ok" were when Brownell transitioned into HC after Jerry's departure and when we fired Buzz to hire Keatts. Every other hiring process and transition was sloppy at best.
If I'm a William and Mary fan I have to think the worst right now. The writing is on the wall and any coach with something to lose isn't walking into this scenario right now. This could be a decade plus long disaster. I hope it's not.
EDIT: Keatts only took one of our players, for the record. We lost every single one of our recruits to an array of schools.
One of those recruits was on campus, but someone dropped the ball getting his paperwork finished. So when, I think it was Kansas State kicked a player off the team, it opened a spot up. We then lost our only remaining recruit because someone else didn't do their job.
Mwado Sallah was a McGrath recruit. He was not one of the players Keatts had recruited.

Whoever's recruit, we lost him because the paperwork was not completed.

Man, you think we have drama on our board over the loss/gain of our baskeball coaches? Take a stroll on the Tribe board. Now hearing that many of the PLAYERS were about to leave if Shaver didn't.

There’s definitely some angst over there on that board right now. I feel bad for them. However, it’s 1-2 posters claiming that was the case but nobody has presented any evidence of it. Considering one of their best seniors just announced he’s transferring... I’m already doubting that theory. If it were true, it seems he would’ve stayed since he was one of their top returning seniors.
There’s a lot of drama over there right now. I feel bad for them. Just a massive punch to the gut for a lot of them and I remember feeling the same way 13 years ago.

One of those posters seems VERY connected to the program. Sometimes you never know. Pierce may have been transferring anyway. You'll really know once they hire the new coach. If players leave after that, the "mutiny" theory will be revealed as false. If they all stay, it could very well be true. Still hate the division created.
The more I think about it, the more the theory has some validity. When nothing adds up or makes sense, this theory actually does.

That’s where I waffle as well. Got Ribe is very connected to the program and a very good person in general. When I attended games there, he and his wife were very kind to me, knowing even that I am a UNCW alum, fan, and board mod. Regardless, they were quite kind to me and I do trust what they say. This one just seems like such an odd ordeal. I’m saddened for them over there as it seems people are almost ready to lose each other’s friendship over the matter. Never under estimate the power that being a passionate fan holds. Crazy stuff.

It seems to me Justin Pierce would have transferred regardless if Shaver had not been fired. He announced he is transferring before any new coach is hired.

Impossible to say for sure, but there’s definitely logic there. He’s garnering some big time P5 interest. Some top 10 programs.

Anyone else getting a Kelly Mehrtens "vibe" from the William and Mary AD? Female from a "big time" school, doesn't seem connected to the fans, looking to show everyone how big time schools work with a "bold" move on the basketball coach?

I don't know. Did she faint at her first press conference, too?
(If she is anything like Mehrtens, it will take them a LONG time to hire a new coach - and when they do, he will suck...)
If anyone doesn't remember how F'd up our situation was with Rosemary DePaolo and Kelly Mehtens running the show, here's a little reminder:

Those were my initial thoughts as well. Why would a big name coach want to put up with the recruiting restrictions at W&M? I dont think their new AD really thought this through

Finally read through some of the posts over there.
It's going to be a long road back for them. Hopefully not as long as ours

The melt down over on the W&M boards has already begun, and honestly, who can blame them?
This smells like a desperation hire after likely being turned down by other target candidates.
What a mess.
Anyone think this guy can convince a bunch of their players to stay put?

Just read that they were turned down by Jason Williford, UVA assistant.
At initial glance this looks like a Benny Moss hire. An assistant from a fellow instate mid major program that has had ok success, but not great.
