Cumberland AAC POY!
CINCINNATI – University of Cincinnati men's basketball junior guard Jarron Cumberland (Wilmington, Ohio/Wilmington High School) has been named the 2018-19 American Athletic Conference Player of the Year by the league's coaches.

Earlier this week, Cumberland was tabbed a unanimous first-team All-AAC selection.

It marks the second consecutive year a Bearcat has received the league's top honor (Gary Clark in 2017-18) and the first time Cincinnati has won conference player of the year honors in back-to-back seasons since Steve Logan in 2001 and 2002 (Conference USA).

Doesn't matter. Cronin sucks. Recruiting sucks. Players are stiffs and mid major talent only. The team flamed out this year. The program is in shambles. Time to move in a new direction.

Surprise to me. But congrats well deserved forsure! Maybe some coaches believe even though his scoring fell off it was due to double/triple teams and fouls not being called?

AAC player of the year, still ranked. UC gets way more respect from insiders than we do. Hopefully we get some wins next and the committee gives UC some respect too.

Sad but true. I think we'd all feel a lot different about this season if we all still didn't have last year's epic collapse in our minds. I still support the team and Mick as much as ever, I just want to see them have some more success in March. That's a legitimate and fair thing to expect.

I think most of us thought Cumberland had lost this award the last six weeks of the season. I think his winning it shows how much opposing coaches realize the amount of game planning effort was necessary to just hold him in check, as opposed to other players in the league.

Congratulations, Jarron! Keep showing why the next four weeks!

I'm surprised because of the way he finished the season, but he had a hell of a year. Well deserved.

I truly believe if the coaches voted after Sunday the outcome would be different. Not that Jarron was bad but the best player on the best team has to be convincingly defeated and after Sunday I would have found it hard to argue Davis had been beaten out for the award.

Jarron is definitely deserving although I would have voted Davis.

I thought it was 3 man race heading into Sunday but Davis won it with the premier performance of the year in the premier conference game of the year.

that and just how responsible to our success he is. corey davis has an excellent team so its easier for him to succeed. the tigers weren't that great. tubby smith would have had similar results

Congrats to Jarron!!!

Wondering if the vote was so dispersed between Davis, Cumberland and the kid from Memphis. Be interesting to see the vote total.

There's definitely an argument that Jarron deserved the award. Defenses were being specifically designed for one purpose, stopping Jarron. Once the refs started allowing the WWE tactics they had success stopping him. Corey Davis never had to deal with that.

Odd fact. The AAC POY winners that didn’t win the regular season title did not lose a game in the NCAA tournament that year.
