That was exhausting. How NIU coaches kept their cool during the end of that was amazing.

I would have also. I still can’t comprehend wtf the officials were thinking (or not) at the end of that game.

Stupid is as stupid does. 3 blind mice and all that.

I don't get espn+, but as I understood it from radio explanation, the play ended at the actual foul, not the whistle. Refs were checking time remaining. So WMU got to shoot freethrows with .6 left, although the clock showed 0:00. Still a hair-raiser. WMU got 2 freethrows and missed both, but could have tied for overtime or won it with those.

These fûcking clowns.

As if the game was decided at 4.4 seconds left.

What’s interesting is that the word is that the WMU player Wool had an on campus visit with NIU at one. How’s that for what comes around goes around?

That was some high school officiating at the end. But the play for the winning score was a thing of beauty. Hat's off to the women. Gritty performance.

Amazed how Voigt was so open on NIU's final play. Talk about a defensive breakdown.

On a related note, Voigt was named second-team all-MAC. Pathetic. First German (twice) and now this.

If it's any consolation, the refs sucked in the men's game, too.

After NIU scored on a backdoor cut for a wide open layup TO was called. Ball advanced past halfcourt for inbound by wmu.

Screen set at top of 3 arc and their shooter took shot but looked to be tipped slightly. Ball hit rim and fell straight down to their big baller but facing away from basket. She swung around to shoot but hit bottom iron. Game over. Red lights. NIU runs on court. BUT WAIT.

Refs call foul.

It was hard to see the foul actually. I got to sit behind bench and see officials review angles (after the game). I saw it multiple times but nobody was close to shooters arm unless they called the foul on an NIU player who was reaching down and falling to floor. At that point the ball was at shooters hip who was not in position to shoot she was sideways looking away from the rim. If that was case it was a lame call.

Anyone able to see clearly the foul on TV?

So after standing around for 5 minutes with replay review the wmu shooter tightened up and missed 2 FTs although both were close. Game over again.

From what I saw the ref under the basket called a foul (it ended up being on Riley Blackwell). On the initial shot Riley was knocked down. She was nowhere near the shooter of that last second shot. It seemed take forever for them review the play. My guess is that they were trying to figure out how much time was left, but that has to be simple. I don't know if they were looking to see whether there was an elbow thrown (again there was nobody near the girl who ended up shooting the free throws) or something else. Or possibly checking all the angles to see if the foul (cough, cough) occurred after the buzzer.

I would guess that a review that takes that long, especially, at the end of the game would probably get reviewed by the league or conference, as well.

Would be interesting to know if anyone with first hand knowledge or within the athletic department knows the protocol on something like this.

Certainly, you have to feel for the girl that missed both free throws, but for NIU to lose or been forced into overtime on a call like that would have been just as, or even, more heartbreaking.

We are really playing thin right now---really only six had significant minutes.....and going up against Ohio----it's going to be incredibly tough to stay in the game. Best of luck to the ladies---hopefully can shock the conference and get to 20 wins.

Was there a whistle? I think even that's disputed. Not even sure an actual whistle was blown/foul called.

But after their 'conference' together, refs decide there was a foul called even if there was no whistle.

Again, no single ref may have actually called a foul but they may have made a team decision that there was, after the fact, but when reviewing the tape they may have not been able to find one because nobody was near the "fouled" player. But awarded the free throws anyway.

It better be examined and explained in full detail to all.

She should be very proud of herself for preventing the robbery set in motion by the crooked and/or incompetent refs to play out.

She's a gôddamn superhero. Get that girl a cape.

The woman ref blew the whistle. She called the foul. I believe they were reviewing to see if the foul occurred prior to the final buzzer or after. But who knows.

I saw the ref put her arm up for a foul call immediately after the ball came back down and yes it was the baseline ref. She did so quickly and the shooter pointed to her forearm as if she was fouled there. But nobody was there as I could tell.

Agreed, IF it was a foul would have been a bs call at end of game as so much contact was made all over.

Let the players decide the game and not a touch or phantom foul decide game

What do the kids say, "ball don't lie!"? Guess that is why the FTs missed.
