Purdue (Indiana's Land Grant University) is on 8th year without tuition increase
This school is doing it right. Here is a message from the President of Purdue University:

Dear Alumni and Friends,
Lots of news to share with you this month, starting with the recent announcement of an eighth straight year without a tuition increase. With tuition held at 2012 levels through at least the 2020-21 academic year, six graduating classes will have earned their Purdue degrees without ever having a tuition increase. And combined with lower room and board rates, it now costs less to attend Purdue than it did in 2012.

The last time a tuition increase was announced at Purdue, today’s freshmen were in elementary school.

In that time, total student borrowing is down 31 percent, and the loan default rate three years post-graduation for our graduates today is 0.8 percent compared with 2.5 percent for May 2011 graduates.

There aren't many institutions of higher learning -- ESPECIALLY at the elite level -- that even pretend to care about affordability.

The Georgia Tech distance learning center is also doing great work largely unnoticed. You can get a masters in Computer Science or Cybersecurity or scores of other fields from GT, administered online, soup to nuts, for about $5,000. Lucky me being at the tip of the millennial generation, when I was coming through all the .edus held their nose up at online courses as though they were all clearly fraudulent and inferior.

I think Rice has done a good job of that lately by offering free tuition to families earning under $130,000 a year. They're seemingly using their massive endowment to keep the tuition in check? And I wouldn't be surprised if other Ivies and elite private schools with big endowments do the same.

Purdue might be an option for my older daughter. We may have to consider it.

As far as BIG universities go Purdue is probably pretty conservative. Michigan probably has 50 Diversity officers.

Ah, pues ahi esta! That's the reason, it's conservative which means it doesn't go full fledged nutso with the Leftists agenda and its pink hatted wussies. One goes to college to learn, plain and simple, as it should be...and keep the money away from other stupid agendas.

The problem is that rankings discourage such affordability. They would rather a school like Rice charge $60,000 and then give half the students full scholarships than charge everyone $30,000. Net/net it's the same thing... but it makes a huge difference in the rankings.

No full tuition is waived now. Don't know about the 2nd part yet but perhaps something in the math or engineering fields.

Basically. My alma mater Miami pioneered a then-uncommon program of auto-scholarships in the early part of the century. I'm making up numbers, but if in-state and out-of-state tuitions were $10K/$30K they advertised that all students who had at least a 3.7 GPA and 26 ACT would get $2K/$6K applied to tuition for four years, 28 ACT would bump it to $4/$12, etc. This helped keep our pipeline to out-of-state suburbs alive and well after OSU started getting serious about academics, but had the side effect of making Miami a prohibitively expensive public school for many (recently saw a stat that 40% of students come from a household making over $200K). When you offer $5K per year to six kids from the affluent Chicago North Shore it comes at the expense of offering a full ride to someone from the south side.

So they have 14 on staff? Michigan has over 100.

In-State tuition at UA is now higher than it was out-of-state when I was there.
