It reminds me of a high school or college student who didn't do their homework, and is basically trying to BS their way through a response for about 2 or 3 minutes. I just don't get all the excitement and hubbub about her, from either side of the spectrum. But the media and society in general is making too much out of people's responses (and this is true for Trump too I admit).
John Kasich (and Bernie Sanders, among others) was also at South by Southwest this weekend, and I read where he got into trouble for one of his quotes. Kasich was talking about being so far in the wings during the 2016 primary debates that he felt like a Ugandan swimmer at the Olympics. And some people criticized that response for being racist. Really???

Eh, at millennial/hipster-packed SXSW? In one of the most liberal cities in America? That's to be expected.

It reminded me more of Karl Marx forgetting his homework and trying to BS his way through it.
Here is something I don’t understand. AOC and Bernie keep saying that we somehow lost what made us great. What they are proposing is not what made us great. What they are proposing is what we did not do is the things that they want to do, and not doing it is what made us great.
Your last sentence sounds like one I'd craft. I have to admit I had to re-read it a couple of times to get what it's saying. My first thought after reading the OP was what the hell is she spouting, does she even believe her nonsense herself or is she simply having her strings pulled.
"It’s just that now we’ve strayed so far away from what has really made us powerful, and just, and good, and equitable, and productive..." No, WE haven't, the dems have and now that WE seem to be returning to those things that really did make us powerful and just and good they can't stand it.
And this is either a blatant attempt to re-write history or she really is that ignorant:
"So, when someone’s talking about our core, it’s like oh this is radical, but this isn’t radical, this is what we’ve always been.”"

The people I know in Texas are embarrassed by their state capitol.

LOL at John Kasich-- dude won the governorship of Ohio originally running on the platform of a Tea Party Conservative. Within his 8 year term he morphed into a neoconservative, then into a Republican moderate, and by the end was a Blue Dog Democrat. He's a press conference away from being a Democratic-Socialist.

Precisely what worries me about 10-20 years from now as common sense ages and we enter the age of these idiots (AOC) being the major fan favorites.

That last sentence was pretty awkward, on rereading it. I think I did some editing and forgot to delete some words. I edited it to say what I meant a bit more directly. Bottom line: The things that they say made us great did not. We did not do the things they want us to do, and not doing them is what made us great.

Michael Knowles' commentary on AOC's definition of capitalism is priceless. He picked up on exactly what I was thinking when I first heard it.

I guess saikat forgot to program those talking points into her.
