Like I said, I hope I'm right and it all turns around when we play for real. We have the talent to win this thing if we just play like we have most of the season. I don't think this is on JJ and I have been one of his biggest critics. This is on the seniors. They have to step up and carry this team on their shoulders. Motivation should not be an issue at all. This is their time to step up like they have for the entire season up until now. Ahmad has to take control of himself so that he can control his team. Cut back on turnovers, make smart passes and take quality shots. BJ has to "be da man". He can't disappear for this team to be successful. He has to want to take charge. If these two do their job it will only make things a lot easier for everyone else. Like I said I hope I'm right and a win Thursday is a step in the right direction for our confidence.

I hope this is right too. My optimistic side (or is it the opposite of realist? I lost track) is the above happened, and we ran vanilla offensive/defensive schemes. The problem I have with this is a fundamental one - I don't think a team should ever take a game off even if there's nothing to gain in standings, but that has been discussed and broken down enough already.

Maybe JJ and the team, realized there was no chance for an at large and there was no chance for improvement in conference tournament seeding, and getting points in the polls probably wasn't that big a deal. So maybe they decided to chill, to get healthier, to not have anyone else get injured....It is frustrating, but I can hope that 04-cheers

With all due respect I don't think this is the case. If JJ wanted to "chill" he wouldn't have played Caver, Stith, and X 39 minutes against UAB. I don't know the answers but my guess is our team thought Southerm Miss was going to be automatic with senior night, last home game, playing a team we beat easily, and we got shocked. It carried over to the UAB game and they were hungry to beat us as well. Hopefully the carryover thing is in the past and we are ready on Thursday.

Could be a combination. Perhaps they did think USM was auto win, and when it didn't happen, the game at UAB carried even less weight than before. FWIW, BJ played 30 min at UAB.

Trying to figure out the whys will kill your brain- but I like the optimism of most on this thread that it’s a 3 game tournament.. biggest hurdle is to just get the first W .. once we taste a victory I think it will provide the rest to bring home the championship..

Please God I hope we didn’t tank games on purpose. I’m willing to go with the vanilla idea. Maybe Jones has some new wrinkles ready for the tournament and didn’t want to tip his hand.

My bad, Stith did get in foul trouble. Thanks for correction.

But with that being said, it’s hard to blame him when I watch these guys miss layups and bunnies. Just in the UAB game... our best three scorers missed layups. BJ and X missing wide open jumpers the entire game. I mean come on... it’s got to be on the players at some point. All the coaches can do is put the players in position to make plays.

In terms of strategy... if we aren’t going to get anything from dickens and Ezikpe then we gotta go small. I’m baffled by Dickens... kid has flashed some serious talent this year and now he hasn’t scored a bucket in over a month. I think Zip is just banged up so I’ll give him a pass.
Hey, maybe you know the answer to this question. We know Zip was hurt couple weeks back but somewhere I saw it mentioned that BJ was "busted up". Could it be he's hurt worse then we think and that's why all of a sudden he goes for 6 and 7? Have you heard anything about BJ?

I don’t know the answer to that. He seemed fine to me, just not shooting well. I know he’s been a little banged up all year but that’s no excuse. I really don’t care about the guys being banged up at this point. Every team has guys nicked up. If BJ and Caver don’t bring it and ball out in this tournament I’ll be slightly pissed off...

CUSA Tournament Threat
If we are giving 100% effort, moving without the ball, diving for loose balls, etc and fall short, that's one thing. Another performance like the last two and I'll be livid.

Seems like all of the young guys have hit a wall. Dickens, Wade, Kithcart, Ezikpe, all are struggling at the end of February. Hopefully that can pick it up this week and have BJ return to form.

Fingers crossed today for good news on COY and POY. I feel better about COA than POY because I worry BJ and Caver will split votes between them. Still, I am hoping we pick up both awards.

Kithcart doesn't seem to be struggling, just can't get on the court.

FAU up early against La Tech. Owls look like the better team but dogs brought the fans so I'm not sure who I'm supposed to root for other than a close physical game

Ezikpe been hurt so I give him some slack. But Kithcart has been MIA,. Wade hasn't been horrible but I think it hurts his game that he's only a driver. He has no jumpshot and doesn't even attempt them in game , so what he's gonna do is becoming really predictable. They just leave him open daring him to shoot. I havent paid attention to Dickens to see what he's doing or not.

Not to be Punny but X has to be that X factor.

Also, Robinson need to play more. Get the ball inside. I've seen glimpse where he has the ability to take over games. If FAU wins we gonna need that inside presence against them.

Kithcart brings great energy and fight but sometimes he plays out of control - and he makes me nervous when he leaves his feet and then passes the ball. With that said, Jones better have a backup plan if BJ has another off game. And it definitely needs to include Jkit.
