1) The league doesn't have a ton of expendable cash. Playing it just a few miles from league HQ makes sense
Even more reason the early rounds need to be played on home courts. Even lower expenses and without a doubt, higher attendance. Plus, if it is all about costs vs. lack of revenue, do away with the tournament all together and award the automatic bid to the regular-season champion.
2) The Cowboys are offering the most attractive financial package of any of the other potential host cities
I'm pretty sure this extension was by edict, much like the 2nd year in Birmingham. The call for bids is always public knowledge and there was nothing. I don't think they investigated possible more attractive alternatives.
3) Birmingham didn't show up and support
The Metroplex didn't show up and support either...with a MUCH larger population base. I was there last year and regardless of the Judy's "very successful" it was a very empty building, like usual for C-USA. There's a reason the conference refuses to release attendance for last year's games. 3-digit attendance figures would prove how low this conference has sunk.
4) Neither would any other institution city
Not for the tournament as a whole. Home games for the early rounds would generate more revenue. The problem is, this conference can't admit that it has sunk to that level, but reality is reality. Pride can be a dangerous thing.
5) The women's tournament doesn't generate revenue at all. Playing it under the same roof at the same time makes the most sense financially
Play that tournament completely on home courts then. Reduce expenditures.

I think this is likely to become the permanent home for the tournament. It's a 1.5 hour flight from Birmingham that you can get for cheap. Come out and support. See everyone at Cityworks Grille before the game tomorrow.

Then it's a good thing UAB is finally making a concerted effort to leave this circus behind at the first beneficial opportunity.

I see we still run this conference (CUAB). What the rest of the conference doesn't realize is, we actually play in front of curtains at Bartow during those day games. We just use the sunshine as an excuse to prepare for playing in Frisco. 03-lmfao

Hopefully by that time, we are on our way to a new conference home and won't have to deal with this conference and it's issues any longer.

One favorite theme is moving UAB to a better conference. Has anyone among our various insiders heard of such an invitation? Is anyone in the UAB administration listening for one?

What might be the potential for an "All Urban University Conference" uniting urban situated universities in larger cities across America? Such schools as Memphis, UAB, GA State, FIU, UTSA, Charlotte, Houston, Tulane, et al would be possible members of such a new "G" conference.

Yes, UAB is actively, but not publically positioning itself for an expected round of re-alignment in the 2021-2023 time frame. The Ignite program is the first step.

I said this on the main board. I really wish this league would adopt the isame 8 team, double bye for the top two teams format the OVC uses and have the higher seeded team host the games. Gives your best teams a better chance to make the big dance, which increases your chances of earning NCAA credits and (hopefully) prevents your tournament games from being played in empty arenas.

One thing that hasn’t been poor in recent years has been our play in the NCAA tournament. Even with the empty arenas, our representatives have done a good job.
