MyBB SIU Basketball Coach agrees to step down
07-coffee3 Interesting.......

Quote:Southern Illinois coach Barry Hinson announced he would be stepping down after the loss. Hinson coached the Salukis since the 2012-13 season and spent nine years at Missouri State before that. Hinson never made an NCAA Tournament appearance in his 17 years as a Division I coach. He and the chancellor agreed last March that he would step down if the Salukis didn't make the NIT or NCAA tourney this year.

Interesting and they had a winning record this season. Wonder if something else was going on too. Kill is the new AD there.

His folksy nature grated on the nerves of SIU fans. Plus 7 years with no NIT or NCAA. Plus SIU wants to hire alum Bryan Mullins who is an assistant at Loyola.

The real reason is because they saw SIU is below NIU in Kenpom. That is a red flag

Well played Dog Tracks 03-lmfao.

I mean it's Carbondale. Which is literally a stones throw from Paducah.

You don't realize how far south until you look at a map.

Or until you’ve driven there. One time only. That was enough.

They could have filmed “Deliverance” there.

Since it is slow on the board, lets just say that NIU had some type of agreement like this with Monty this year. I really wonder what type of "talent pool" we would be able to hire from to replace him.

Who would everyone like to see him get replaced with? (Realistic options)

I was on the Jerrance Howard idea, but don't think he would leave Kansas for here.

Bryan Mullins would have been 2 or 3 on my list but he's likely headed to his Alma Mater, so he's out.

Was never on the Jerrance Howard train.

Thanks a lot. Now I can't get the sound of "Dueling Banjos" out of my head.

No thank you to Jerrance. Word is the guy has a love for the ganja. Also he was arrested for possession a few years ago and hid it from Self for months, ended up getting suspended.

What Kill did at SIU was miraculous— they were one of the worst teams in the nation for years before he got there. Do that and you can act however you want.

Who the hell cares about weed these days. If he is delivering the school top recruits and doing it by the book, no one is going to care.

The reason I don't think he is leaving is it will take a lot of $$ IMO to get him as a head coach.

I mean I'm all for pot legalization but I question the work ethic of potheads, and I've heard he's a big one.

Also the fact he hid his arrest from Self for 6 months that even a guy as dirty as Self felt he had to suspend him says something too.
