I'm no beer connoisseur. It's only if you have AK as an opportunity as a bucket-list destination.

They highly value quality drafted local beer. They love their beer.

First off, there are two types of Alaskans- Townies and the folks that live in the “bush”. Townies love their craft beer. Everyone else drinks what’s wet. Grouping townies with everyone else is like grouping Alaska with the rest of the US.

Can't do that hoppy stuff. Drinking a 6'er of IPAs is a recipe for a headache. If you can find it on the side of a race car, it's for me.

But if you're ever up there the local breweries are great. I went to Seward Brewing Co. in Seward, AK that is a restaraunt/brewery that offers a few ounces of samples of each of their beers for free before you purchase one, from IPA's to Stouts. Excellent meal/craft beer combination. They brew right there on the spot.

I think the most consumed after Alaskan Icy Bay IPA and Alaskan Amber is Natty Ice. For whatever reason that stuff is drunk like water. I still buy Coors Light tho.

Dear God, anytime I've ever drank Natty Ice, I'm your Mick Cronin signature the following day.

I would say domestic beer outsells craft beer in AK. Have you mentioned Anchorage Brewing? That’s the highest rated brewery by beer snobs.

Have you ever actually visited Alaska? I'm not arguing with you man. It's Alaska. My best friend is a bush pilot between Anchorage and Talkeetna, AK.

We have lots of fun with Beer deliveries from Anchorage down down to the Kenai Peninsula.

Stop running your mouth while you're behind.

In my old age I learned it's about quality over quantity.

I've never been a good drinker, although I tried for decades. I learned that I have a much better night and next day if I have a little quality mezcal, sotol, or whisky than I do pounding 8 - 12 beers.

I prefer IPAs when drinking beer but definitely not gonna drink a six pack. My go-to for regular beer is Modelo, though. I find it pretty risk-free for my physical well being.

That said, a nice sativa is much easier on my constitution. Quality over quantity applies here too.

Hmm, I like IPA and grapefruits and grapefruit juice. But they taste nothing alike.

I tried Shiner's Ruby Red grapefruit beer a number of years back and was disappointed at the lack of grapefruit. I imagine someone's made a good grapefruit beer. I'd love to try a good one, especially in the heat of the summer.

Captain and grapefruit juice.

American IPAs tend to lean heavy on grapefruit as part of their hop flavor profile, and I do find a lot of west coast IPAs unappealing as a result. (Even some NE-style IPAs have a touch of grapefruit twang...) If you want IPAs done less aggressively citrusy BC, I recommend anything English. Fuggles and Challenger are two of my favorite hop varieties from the other side of the pond. Kinda earthy and woodsy, maybe a touch herbal. Authentic ones are kinda hard to come by here but Brooklyn East India IPA is a decent American take on it.

New Zealand & Australia are emerging as outstanding hop-growing regions as well, producing some interesting varieties for use in IPAs. I had a single-hop Nelson Sauvin IPA once that had delicious white wine notes.

2. Rhinegeist - Truth, Zen
(king of west coast IPAs, OTR's Flagship)

3. Braxton / Braxton Labs - Storm, Dead Blow
(best experimental beers)

4. Taft's - Gavel Banger, Nellie's, Cherrywood
(best tap room by far)

They also happen to have the best tap rooms (go figure). There are so many other pop-ups around I have only tried 70%. There are excellent offerings here and there but nothing so far that has shaken the top four or so. I'm convinced craft beer in 2019 is now more about location, brand, amenities and community integration than the actual beer taste.

i live on the eastside. those breweries are fun to hang out at but most of the beer is sh!t. to each their own.

everything bearded iris puts out is so good. their ddh homestyle is one of my favorites. they recently started doing small distro batches to cincinnati so it's easier to get ahold of now. 04-cheers

You don't need to lecture me on the two types of Alaskans. I'm not sure what your point is. Sure, moonshiners live in the foothills of East TN and KY also. But basically 50% of the population of AK resides in Anchorage.

My friend happens to be a Bush Pilot. He's stationed in Anchorage, works Talkeetna/Anchorage in the Summer, spends his winters on the West Coast of AK during the winter months, delivering everything from beer to pizza by plane, which is absolutely in the bush. I've flown with him to the Kenai Peninsula to deliver basic food and supplies at an oil rig accessible by air only.

Your main cities/towns in AK are not "bucktooth rednecks".

He earned an MBA from University of Texas and worked for Fidelity Investments in Dallas for several years before moving to AK. The developed towns are not that uncommon populated by citizens from his experience escaping the lower 48.

When you spend several weeks up there traveling and experiencing culture in the heart of local communities, you learn a thing or two about culture.

You sound like a childish keyboard warrior typing out of your parent's basement that's likely never visited a state of anything outside of your home town, let alone AK.

Lol. I think I’ve toyed with you long enough. I was going to wait until I rode out to Maclaren Saturday and post a pic of me drinking a Coors at the lodge bar. I live 200 miles northeast of Anchorage along the Trans Alaska Pipeline.
