RE: College Basketball Teams' Budget Evaluations
We've earned a bye in the CUSA 3.0 tournament one time (pending tomorrows results) yet we have the 2nd largest budget.

CUSA 2.0, 2006-2013: Bye's in 2006, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011. 2 NCAA bids, 3 NIT bids

CUSA 3.0, 2014-2018: Bye in 2016. 1 NCAA bid, 1 NIT bid

Pretty illustrative of why attendance is so down.

We do need to grow the basketball budget but we also have to make sure we're getting what we're paying for.

This is a program with a historical average of making either the NCAA or NIT in 2 of every 3 years. They;re looking at the 3rd straight season of not making either, and only having gone to one of each over the past 8 seasons. That's not acceptable. I also understand the changing landscape of college basketball...rant over.

Wait, this doesn't fit the narrative that we cant compete in this league until we start investing in basketball. So.....what's the next excuse?

Folks in Alabama love to say , "Thank God for Mississippi or else we'd be...". I think we could probably use that same line of thought for UAB and UTEP.

Apparently stating basketball needs money equates to we can’t compete without money.

RE: College Basketball Teams' Budget Evaluations
So the excuse is usually we cant win because of the league we are in or we cant win until we start investing in basketball, etc. The counter is why cant we consistently be one of the best teams in CUSA instead of barely above .500 like weve been the last few years. We invest enough in basketball and we have nice enough facilities to where we should be, even if we could use some improvements. The bottom line is there is no excuse for UAB basketball to be where it's been the last few years.

RE: College Basketball Teams' Budget Evaluations
Seems like I recall reading on BlazerTalk that we had one of the smallest recruiting budgets in CUSA but I could be wrong. If we do, I have to wonder what we're spending our $ on because Ehsan isn't that highly paid.

UAB's bball budget would be:

12th out 13 in the AAC (ECU)

12th out of 14 in the A10

9th out of 11 in the WCC

7th out of 11 in MWC (slightly behind Utah State)

3rd out of 11 in the MVC

1st in the Colonial

2nd out of 10 in the WAC

1st in the MAC

*The Belt or Horizon weren't listed. Don't get why CUSA would make a basketball scheduling agreement with those two leagues.

Lowest budgets in the Power Conferences:

ACC - Boston College $6.6M
B10 - Penn State $7.2M
B12 - OSU $6.1M
BE - Butler $5.5M
SEC - MSU $6.8M
PAC - WSU $4.9M

Really surprised ODU and Western dont have the highest budgets. Actually, I thought ODU had the highest athletic budget in the conference by a pretty wide margin.

Money is not the only factor in a program's success, but no program has demonstrated great success without it. Some may still insist that FBHC Clark would have had his current success with Watson Brown's level of funding and facilities, but I don't agree. Basketball may be in the same relatively deprived facility condition as some have suggested in the past. If so, more money can be the quickest answer to a range of desired improvements.

Exactly. Do we need more money? Sure. But we also haven't even been getting what we've paid for the last few years.
