Seitan is a biggie.

My in laws are Buddhist and we often eat fake meat - much of it seitan based. I don't mind eating vegetarian but for the most part prefer the veggies in or close to their natural state. I'd rather eat a plate full of pasta primavera than a veggie burger.

I knew tofu was used by vegans as well, but with the source being soy I assumed it would not be the best source for a male. I suppose tofu is the gluten free protein alternative.

It seems odd for the vegans to think vegetarianism is a natural state for humans considering the lengths they have to go to in order to create acceptable sources of protein. Can you get enough without seitan and tofu?

It's not even the Velveeta of the cheese world. At least that melted on some good crusty bread looks and tastes good.

This?

it's not close to frumunda....

Based on the hard core vegans I know I would have guessed semen.

I wouldn't eat that if I lost a bet.

Looks like someone cut up an old boot and threw on the griddle.

Interesting how the veg-heads are SO against meat yet want their food to TASTE & LOOK like meat.

I didn't mention tofu because soy beans are a legume - you already listed them. We eat tofu periodically, and I like it. I do not have man boobs.

There is a very popular vegan restaurant in Los Angeles called Real Food Daily; I used to drive by regularly. Ate there - ONCE. Remarkably unhealthy looking customers.

Why is that interesting? People like meat. The only way to get people to switch to a non-meat diet is by replacing meat with a suitable substitute. Vegetarians aren't vegetarian because they don't like meat. They generally do it for moral reasons, and most eventually introduce meat back into their own diets to some degree. Every vegetarian I knew has at a minimum re-introduced fish back into their diets over time.

I for one think lab grown meat will fill that role in the future. It'll still be true meat, but will not require killing animals to acquire it.

That is the worst invention I have ever seen.

It's like the farside cartoon with the scientist that invented the dog speech translator and found out that when they barked all they were saying is "Hey!".

This (bolded) is demonstrably untrue, and there are enough vegetarians who do so for health reasons that your generalization is, if not wrong, probably over the top.

That fake meat reminds me of freshman biology and an unicellular animal called a planaria.

Wouldn't eat it. Just looks gross.

Why do vegans name their foods after things they won't eat?

The people I know who claim to be "vegetarian" usually break down into two camps.

1) The health reason - Not realizing that lean mean along with poultry and fish make for the MOST healthy diet. Everything in moderation.

2) The "it's the hip, IN, thing to do" - What better way to virtue signal and profess how more "enlightened" you are than spread the gospel of vegetarian. Convince yourself of your superiority by patting yourself on the back.

The "morality" folks tend to skip right to the Vegan camp and that's a WHOLE other level of sanctimony....

This (not the part about liking them personally though)

Veggie items shouldn't try to be be feak (fake steak) or Ficken, but should instead be as tasty as they can be all by themselves. A veggie burger is like a fish sandwich or chicken sandwich or portobello burger... and shouldn't try to be a hamburger

If you like them, great. If you don't, that's fine. SOme people don't like steak.

It is stunning to me that there is a product (intentionally) named Soylent, and that people apparently buy and consume it.
