wallner comes out of it so bad. If it was a golf swing, he would hit banana slices. Watch his lead foot, it comes out of the batters box. Very surprising that it has not been fixed in 3 years.

We will prob throw 7 pitchers Sunday.

Almost made it through the lineup without a strikeout. Thanks Lynch.

And big league talent may go through a slump of not getting solid hits, but not because they are striking out. Bet he gets drafted in 5th round or lower and never makes it out of A ball.

Is Wallner "big league"? What do you mean?

Is he big league ready? Hell no. Not even close. Almost no college hitter is. In his junior year, Hunter Renfroe from State looked like one of the more "MLB ready" hitters I have watched in college. It took him over three years to get to the majors, and he had some up-and-down seasons in the minors.

Will teams look at Wallner and think he has some well-developed skills, physical abilities, and can be a star with development? Definitely. Like most prospects, there are some holes in his game that hurt him against college pitching--and will hurt him worse against minor league pitching. Unfortunately, some of those weaknesses have been evident since he was a freshman, and he doesn't seem to have gotten better in those areas.

Wallner and Mason Robbins are the two guys Berry has signed who stepped on the field as elite freshman players. Robbins left as the exact same player (and actually saw his draft stock decline significantly). Fortunately, Wallner's stock won't take the hit that Robbins' did (in part because I think he came here as a much more polished hitter). Unless something changes, though, I think he will also be leaving here the same player that he was as a freshman.

Wallner's stroke is amazingly pure....

what I'm currently seeing is his plate discipline is suspect coupled with his left shoulder isn't driving through the swing b/c he's second guessing pitch location.....

jmtc...

I think it looks amazingly pure connecting with fastballs around 90 or below.

I don’t know if it’s compact enough to routinely make good contact with 92-96 mph fastballs that he can’t sit on. He’s tall and has long arms and legs. The disadvantage with that is that pitchers have a huge zone and there are a lot of moving parts with his swing.

I think he still needs to add some lower body strength too.

Wonder how many of us "experts" are gonna be first round draft choices?

Kinda reminds me of what Lee Trevino said when asked if he was gonna hire one of those high falutin golf gurus that suddenly became a craze for all the young pro dudes: "Sure I will....when one can beat ME", he cracked. 04-cheers

Bowen solo home run. 2-0.

Shame we have too many guys that can hit but are defensive liabilities.

We are desperate for offense. I would still start Bowen at catcher and bring in Donaldson in the 6th or 7th.

Awfully high bar to be qualified to say that a college junior may not be ready to play in the majors now.

I will also climb on that high bar and say Cooper does not have big league talent either. Qualification=sports fan

Donaldson isn’t playing because he’s hurt. When he’s back healthy, he’ll be in the lineup.

Oh, I have no doubt that the second coming of Benito Santiago will be right back in that lineup.

Well, Donaldson is in now. So maybe he’s healthy. He was pulled early Wednesday for something.

It’s felt like McGillis was starting to put things together. He’s made good contact today.
