Marshall is Rutabaga
I really hate for this to devolve into a real basketball thread, but if you do aim to beat us, the best proven strategy is: 1. give us a big lead
2. Press
3. Complete another glorious comeback against the team everybody picked last.

We have been doing much better with holding onto leads lately (mostly, starting with vs Marshall) but it could just be the level of competition.

I guess we’ll find out if we’re ‘for real’ once we get into the quarterfinals against a Pod 1 opponent 03-wink

Poorly handled, GoodOwl. See, we went on to manhandle our Power Conference opponent in the bowl game that year. But your memory must be somewhat faded since you lost that bowl game you remember fondly by, eh , almost 40 points?

But seeing th[e] video causes me to miss real Marshall football. We've basically been Marshall-lite since 2015.

If you've been Marshall-lite, we've been Owl-lay-an-egg.

I was there at the last real CUSA Bowel game freezing my buns off at the Liberty Bowl in Memphis while Missed State made us look like a glorified high school practice team. Sadly, we were apparently very overconfident from our previous game, the aforementioned victory over your squad fro the CUSA Championship where ya'll seemed overconfident going in. I do think you took your disappointment from losing that contest out on your bowl opponent.

Nowadays, CUSA teams don't seem to get chances to play even mid-lower tier SEC teams in bowl games. I couldn't say which of our 5 bowl games is the conference flagship. I hope some day the pendulum will swing back to allow all teams who are conference champions to participate in meaningful post season games.

As to our upcoming basketball contest, I am pleased to see the progress our relatively new head coach, Pera, has made with a mostly Freshman squad. If he can but keep them together instead of the revolving transfer door, along with his new recruits, I think he has a chance to be a pretty good coach for our Hoops team. We seem to be a deeper team, or at least a more balanced team than in past years, so if you key on stopping one player, we have others who seem capable of stepping up. Hope we can keep learning how to close games out, especially when ahead. Should be a good contest for both teams.

It wasn't overconfidence. They were distracted by the conference changing the rules at the last second and having to travel to Texas. Not that it would have mattered on that day. However your return trip in 2014 was an ass whooping of epic proportions.

Our return trip in 2014 didn’t matter. We started the conference season by losing to ODU in their first ever CUSA game. Oh the humanity. The rest was just a blur of tears and sadness.

Yeah, you can't skip over a team that finished in the top 25 inn2914 and go back to 2002.

Hayturz gonna hate and cherry pickaz gonna pix.

Heck Marshall was top 25 in 2013 too according to at least one drunk AP voter.

Yes and I agree even better in 2014.

By 2914 though there will be no football and all this will be settled by virtual sports controlled by message board posters.

Sure I can. I just did. 2014 was great. But it wasn't the gritty teams of the turn of the century, loaded with NFL talent. It was a good team that stumbled mightily without a running back that could knock over anything in his path. 1 loss and two close wins had one thing in common. Devon Johnson was hurt. The games he played healthy we average 40 points to the opponents 17.

You went on a 16-2 run because we hand guys in there that haven’t but a handful of minutes all year!

Elmore, Burks, West and Williams were all out with about 6:30 to go

Jon Elmore now up to 2535 points after scoring 32 tonight. Trailing Skip Henderson by 39 points, Henderson scored 2574 from 85-88. He also had 6 assists tonight giving him 753 so far. Ekmore becomes the 1st college player to amass 2500 points and 750 assists.

Thanks... we try to not take this stuff TOO seriously!

And as Marshall moves on, reminder to fans of both teams to remember our (little-known) common bond.

Both of our school's namesakes share the same middle name...

William Marsh Rice
&
John Marsh Al

(*might need a spellcheck on the second one.)
