Nice win for the Owls in Charlotte.
They’ve really matured in the last 3-4 games.

Been clutch as a finisher in pod play. Really stepped up to be a leader this season.

I wonder how many folks thought this team would be in a position to finish at .500 in conference? Pera and the team deserve great credit both for their steady improvement and for hanging in there when things weren’t going well. Plenty of critics didn’t. Now, maybe we can make some noise in the tournament.

Wild to think we can finish .500 in the conference now with a win Saturday night.

And that is with a stolen win at UTEP. Given the tie breakers we held if we were 10-8 instead of 9-9 we would have been easily in the middle pod.

Probably the team that everybody in the conference is hoping to avoid. They're slowly turning back into their 2018 NCAA Tournament form. 4 straight wins w/ 85+ scored in each. That would suck if our reward for pod play is the hottest team in the conference.

I get the feeling this team doesn’t care who they face.

Especially when a ball in the top of the third would've been called travelling in the first half. That makes the game thread very confusing.

But we do need Parrish back for the tournament. He's absolutely our best outside defender.

Note that the pod system will tend to make most teams records converge to .500.

Lol, as if they actually ever call traveling.

James Harden will soon be the new mascot of Johnnie Walker.

I'm very glad that I was wrong - primarily because I thought that Pera should have been given a pass for last season when he was put into an impossible situation.

Not a fan of this pod system. Wish we had a fixed regular season schedule. System very unlikely most years to help a team get in to NCAAs, which is main reason for this I think. Would rather have two divisions and have teams play fixed 2nd games against relatively nearby schools. We don't need to play 3 games against Charlotte.

RE: Rice at Charlotte men's hoops
Let's all remember, last year the Owls finished 7-24. The bright side was the development of two freshmen and the fact that they were within single digits in at least 8 of their losses with 4 minutes to go in the game. Despite the loss of Hunter and Osborne, this team has the chance to double their win total and has seen strong contributions from their 5 freshmen recruits. I am so happy that Peterson is seeming to turn the corner and close out the season on a productive note. My hats off to Coach Pera and staff. They seem to be able to develop and improve their players. My wish is that all of them stay together and continue to grow as a team. I hope everyone on this board and many, many more come out Saturday night to thank the Owls for a fun season and wish them well in the conference tournament.

The risk with this system is that you could actually wind up playing the same team 4 times in the regular season, if the one team you have to play twice (in Rice's case, UNT) finishes in the bottom pod with you and the two of you are 11/14 or 12/13 in conference seeding. Small chance of happening, but not impossible.

We may not need to play Charlotte 3 times, but by not winning enough to finish out of the bottom pod, that's the risk. It also happened to FAU and FIU this year, as they are paired for the extra game in the regular schedule, but then also wound up in the middle pod together. To me, it's a shrug type of coincidence.

The 4-game situation would bug me a bit more - it's why I kind of wish the league would just drop that extra game, although I guess it leaves them with an odd number of conference games, which means half of the conference teams would have 1 less home game than the others. So on that count, I kind of understand why they choose to do it.

Coach Pera has done a great job, better than I expected. His next challenge is to keep everyone around for next year.
