Probably because the San Diego football stadium is likely to be torn down and replaced by a college football stadium that may seat up to 20,000 people less.

They will probably play 5 more Holiday Bowls in the current stadium. The new stadium will have about half as many seats, but hopefully will have much better sightlines for football.

Yearly rep in the Gator Bowl, very nice.

A possible spot in the Outback Bowl, not bad. So the ACC is now out of the Citrus Bowl picture, I take it?

Holiday Bowl? Might be cool if it was on X-Mas Eve every year. Is the Hawaii Bowl still in that spot? Otherwise, it’s sort of a non-distinguishable bowl anymore.

Should just ditch the RedBox Bowl for the LA bowl. Don't need 41 bowls.

I hope the Holiday Bowl is still at SDSU's new stadium. 40,000 full capacity looks better than 40,000-45,000 at SDCCU.

^ I think you have a point. PAC vs MWC would be perfect for the San Diego bowl and the RedBox shifted to Inglewood. The ACC should take a spot in the Music City Bowl and the Big Ten a spot in the Alamo plus shift the Detroit bowl to Indianapolis against a lower SEC team.

B-10 destroyed the Detriot game, give it back to the MAC & see if they can fix it
i wonder if red box game would work in Vancouver

Midwesterners love them some Nashville, so I see why the Big Ten fought for a spot there. It’s just not south enough for great weather in late December.

The SEC or ACC should host a kickoff game with the Big Ten there.

Passport issue in Vancouver just like the old bowl in Toronto for the Old Big East. 04-cheers

Yes, looks like the ACC is now out of the Citrus Bowl, but overall, I think the bowl shuffling has definitely been to the benefit of the ACC. The ACC is proving it is a desired brand by some pretty big bowls.

Fans don't seem to mind, the MC bowl drew 59,000 this past year, and has drawn over 50k in all but one year over the past 10 years.

Not only do B1G fans like it - Nashville is a cool city and within driving distance of several B1G schools - SEC schools like it as well, because its the home of country music. Even deep-south fan bases love going to Nashville.

It's been a big hit as a bowl game.

Uhm, it looks like trying to find a pairing that at least would scratch in ratings was the catalyst. This is network self interest at work Mark. It will benefit the bigger schools some, but it is designed to benefit the ratings with a small nod to potential travel crowds for the locales.

Boise State to the Vegas Bowl draws crowds and ratings better than other MWC. PAC 12 teams have a better chance at winning against MWC than they would with a SEC team.

Perceptions matter. With the arrival of the Raiders and a new stadium, the Vegas Bowl is trying to up its perception as a bigger-time bowl. That means an A5 vs A5 matchup, even though the MWC has done well with that bowl.

And it is a coup for the V to get the SEC in to their rotation. The SEC usually doesn't travel outside the south for bowl games unless it is an NY6 game.

Would definitely travel to Vegas for a matchup with a Pac 12 team.

The Las Vegas Stadium in 2020 will be quite busy. UNLV has seven home games scheduled for 2020, with home games in the first three weekends against Cal, Louisiana Tech and Arizona State. The Raiders will have ten home games, the two pre-season games and the eight regular season games. There will likely be a Pac-12 Championship game followed by the bowl game with the Pac-12 vs SEC. Should be some good football in Vegas in 2020.

It will be -- if it's ready by then. The original target date for completion was June 2020. They've already moved that target back to August 1, 2020.

The Raiders apparently aren't 100% confident of playing in Vegas in 2020, either, because they recently signed a lease in Oakland that gives the Raiders a team option to play in Oakland in 2020, as well as 2019.

Yes, some big interests are betting that there is a big appetite for live football in Las Vegas, a very unproven assumption.

We will find out soon enough. 07-coffee3

Oh, I know all about Nashville. It’s a place where the low of your trip could be the actual game, especially if it’s cold and rainy! I also know a lot of southerners that avoid it like the plague. You hear a lot of “it ain’t what it used to be”.

The team has not actually signed the lease. There may be a holdup.

https://wdef.com/2019/03/06/raiders-deal...ant-issue/

They need a divorce from the City of Oakland. It would be best for both sides. The 2020 option was just in case something went wrong, like an Act of God (earthquake). The Raiders have known about the August 1, 2020 date for about 18 months. The lease is going up from $3.5 million in 2018 to $7.5 million in 2019 to the option year of $10.5 million in 2020. The Coliseum is a dump. They need to leave Oakland.

MAC is probably content with two regulars vs. MWC. They also have the Bahamas with CUSA.

That leaves 3 ties...18 over 6 years to cover. Myrtle, Boca, Mobile, Camelia...N.O? I hope the MAC opens up the Alabama games this cycle.

The Holiday Bowl is the best (non-playoff eligible) bowl out West. It is not a bad trip and weather is usually not a problem (unlike playing bowls in the Bay Area).
