I know you're joking about this but I will say: if X makes the tournament they will go on a run to at least the Sweet 16. This fits their profile for making a run so much, barely get in, make a run going through a lot of higher seeds.

On the real question at hand:
Lose @ UCF, win against Houston.
Get to the finals of the AAC Tourney and lose to Houston.
Make the Sweet 16. I'm being optimistic about our ability to fight and finish close games, has to count for something. Also, Jarron always seems to show up big in the tournament.

Sadly, I could also see the Cats lose both games this week, only winning one game in the AAC Tournament and losing the first game of the NCAA Tournament. I don't think this will be the case and while the season would still be a success it would leave a sour taste in all our mouths.

In light of the past decade would you consider that a success? Or is it treading water?

Regular season success and tournament success should converge in the long run. Instead of flaming out early with a really good team, I'd rather have a dope run to the Final 4 with an 11 seed. But that's not something you can work towards. It happens either because the team vastly underperformed in the regular season--which is bad!--or because it got lucky in the tournament. Good regular season teams are more often than not good tournament teams, even if things are fluky year to year.

OR got better as the season progressed.

Actually, Virginia suffers from some of the same issues as UC. Despite its success in recent seasons under Tony Bennett, they have not had much NCAA tournament success. UVA won both the regular season and ACC tourney last year but their breakthrough season turned into a dud after the inexplicable loss to UMBC. Has UVA been to a Final Four at any time in recent years? Not to my recollection.
Meanwhile, when you think ACC basketball, you inevitably think UNC and Duke. They seem to advance every year. Because they appear to advance every year, you forget about the years they are eliminated in the first or second round games.

UC is in the tournament every year, which is no small feat, but only one advance to the Sweet 16 under Cronin undermines our claim as an elite program.

The run of really bad tournament started in 1997 and hasn’t stopped outside of two sweet 16 appearances. Honestly the way UC has lost in the tournament (and conference tournaments) over the last 20 plus years is unbelievable. From blown leads, missed called, buzzer beaters, halfcourt shots, full court shots, upsets, and the loaded nba team in second round. I am afraid to say we have seen everything but we have seen a lot go wrong since the post season of 1996.

If that happens I will perform a sex act on Mick Cronin. He can pick the act. Dealers choice.

I got a feeling Mick is not on board. He just announced he is starting the following the rest of the season:

PG Nsomeme
SG Diarra
SF Koz
PF Martin
C Moore

Guessing he wants to avoid being a recipient of that reward. 03-puke04-cheers

Really? I would have thought Mick would want Brooks playing point for his superior ball handling ability. 02-13-banana

One thing I can say for sure, if they lose tonight, you will see plenty of folks post that they will lose next week and in the conf tourney and in the first weekend of the NCAA. If they win tonight, you'll see posts talking about Sweet 16, E8 and F4 finishes. Should be entertaining either way. 05-stirthepot

RE: How Do You Think The Cats End Their Season?
Thinking about Cane and JJ’s last game on Sunday when something struck me: We should all be ecstatic with what this team has accomplished. This team has sooo over achieved. I mean, just think about our shooting guards for a second. Jarron: ugly shot, Cane: ugly shot, Keith: ugly shot, Trevor Moore: okay(?) shot, Fredericks: ugly shot, JJ: good shot (and we know how far it’s had to come)

I mean some of those guys shoot it at a really high clip and are damn good players, but my god, you could close your eyes and pick literally any high school kid out of the state of Indiana and they would have the best looking jump shot on this Bearcats team.

Idk what point I’m trying to make and this post might come off the wrong way but being fair, most of their jump shots are ugly. I mean if the ball is in Jarron’s hands in the final seconds, he has to make a play going towards the bucket, because he just can’t shoot over anybody. And yet still he’s arguably the best player in the league. Somehow these guys get it done. Somehow Mick continues to find these types of winning players that nobody else wants. And by god they are fun to root for, even if you have to pull a few thousand hairs out while doing so.

I just don’t understand it. It is truly remarkable...good and bad. I keep trying to draw comparisons to what Mick has built for us and himself and I can’t. I pray for his sake he can break through because he deserves it maybe more than any coach in basketball.

I was in the Virgin Islands once. I met a girl. We ate lobster and drank pina coladas. At sunset we made love like sea otters. *That* was a pretty good day. Why couldn't I get that day over and over and over..

Won back to back National Championships, those were pretty good years, why cant we get those years over and over and over

I would be happy with one more before I leave this earth, but I think I would have to have a lifetime of Biblical proportions for that to happen.

Thats fine, but at some point I think people are getting sick of always being the little engine that could every year.

I'd rather have a bada$$ team that crush fools every time out!

It's called plateauing. Cronin has reached his peak...this is it. If you are happy with this--then the program can stay at this level indefinitely.

If Cronin defines this as progress then you can reasonably assume that this won't change for the foreseeable future. He has as much said this with his "for the fans" quotes.

Honestly, if that's how he really feels, he should skip the tourney, call the season a success, and give our spot to a program that has March penetration as a goal.

However, if the AD wants to reach the next level....they'll have to make a change at some point.
