I know you're on a weird one man crusade because of the midweek games, but playing cold November games that would've been sparsely attended anyway has brought a ton of exposure to schools that would have otherwise been lost in the shuffle. I would bet that NIU never goes to the Orange Bowl if not for the ESPN deal. Similarly GameDay never would have gone to Kalamazoo.
I would argue that with streaming being what it is, the midweek games have just about run their course. Maybe have one a week or something but the number is way too high. But they served a purpose and your hissy fit assertions that they destroyed the league are a joke.
After the close Iowa loss, NIU won 12 games in a row including the MACC against a ranked Kent State team. That, and everyone in front of them in the rankings losing, was what got NIU in. They played one game against Toledo on ESPN2, and I doubt anyone other than NIU fans and the occasional inveterate gambler saw any of the other games.
Yes, but this was a little different time when people still watched ESPN for much or most of their CFB news. The MAC deal with ESPN meant that as a conference we got significant coverage on SportsCenter etc. and thus were much more in the media and public eye.
I obviously have no proof of it but I would bet money that that helped NIU and KSU's rankings that year.

My lone complaint was that if we have mid-week games in November, we should move rivalry games to October. They seemed to have done that this year.
well, except for one highly notable rivalry!
Yeah, but that seemed to be because they wanted to give you guys the 150th anniversary game.
true, so i'm fine with OUr game versus Miami in November. i actually love the mid-week games because i'm a total college football junkie! :-)

They might have watched ESPN but they were not watching ESPNU.
What mainly helped is 3 MAC wins over the Big East including Kent State's win over then-ranked Rutgers.

To minimize travel. I still think it's dumb.
If we are going to have divisions in basketball and an 18 game conference schedule, as opposed to the old 16 game conference schedule, there is no reason that Toledo & BGSUcks shouldn't be playing twice a year (home & home) in basketball!!!

Geographically it's one of the tightest leagues out there... Travel isnt really far for anyone but NiIU and UB. Toledo is 20 miles from BG and 40 from EMU. They should all be playing each other twice.

No argument here. I have no idea why that isn't done already.

In an ideal world I wish the conference was 22 games and everyone played everyone 2x.

The MAC might be able to outperform the MWC every x-number of years, but I don't see the MAC ever surpassing the MWC on a consistent basis. C-USA and the SunBelt are really who we're competing against.
MWC spends close to 2 million more on travel than the MAC, CUSA type travel costs. People don't think they spend a lot on travel since the MWC is all in the western 1/3 of the US but CUSA is in the southern 1/3. Most of the MWC schools do not make MAC money on their TV deal (650k with a 4x share going to Boise)
AAC spends 4 million more on travel and boat loads on coaches. Whatever marginal overall strength advantage to be able to pull a 3rd or 4th team in the tournament doesn't seem worth the debt.
MAC is actually a good place for a coach to put a program in. Think Buffalo now and Akron before it. NIU and Ohio are the FB examples. Back in the 90's the max was like a 3 year BB or FB then back down to earth but now a program can be good for 8 or 10 years.
MAC pays good money compared to FCS leagues and has better facilities than FCS leagues. In the 80's it was basically FCS in both those categories so its come a long way. Performance centers the MAC has put in because of football help all sports.
