I don't know how much you can compare the situations, but
Flanigan's teams won 22 games in two seasons, and he got fired before the customary 3-year window was complete. Let's assume we win one of the last two games (definitely NOT a given): we would then have 11 wins for this season. Theoretically that would mean that if we do not improve significantly next season, Walker's job is in definite jeopardy, and I think that is fair.

I think the reason Wes got axed so quickly was that it was obvious he did not have control of the program, and there was no reason to think anything was going to get better. If there had been reason for hope, he probably would have lasted at least another year.

This season is what it is. The big question is whether or not we will improve next season. There is every reason to think we ought to. Hopefully we will have a full roster next season, and additional height. We will have some talented sophomores with a season under their belts. If all that is true, and Walker still has 22 wins or anything close to it after two seasons, then we need to cut our losses and move on. If the future looks rosier, then give him his full three years.

In my opinion, DW would have to be a pretty awful coach not to do better next season, but we shall see. (But then I also think he had to be a sub-par coach to win only 10 games with the roster we had this season.)

It's hard, even for me, to sugarcoat this season. Maybe ending the season with 2 wins and not getting in the play-in is our best outcome. Getting blown out in the tournament, like last season, is no fun for anyone. I'll be rooting for us to win this week and let the chips fall as they may. Once again, I don't have a clue about next season until we see who comes back and who we sign. I think if every significant contributor comes back and a couple of our recruits pan out, we could be a lot better next season. But, better than a middle of the pack finish (what I was hoping for this season) seems unlikely.

Odd as this may sound (generally being a pessimist), I see no reason that we should not be in the top tier next season. Tucker is one of the elite offensive players in the league. Nowell is a 3-star recruit who has shown flashes of how good he can be if he can learn a little discipline, and we have Pippins and Lottie at point, also. Bankston is already in the record books. Maric looks to be one of the best freshmen big men we have ever had, and will be solidly in the 1000-Point Club even if he never scores more than he has scored this season. Assuming Burns leaves, we may need some help at the 2 spot, but help is on the way, and even so, Pippins and Lottie can fill in well there. The talent is there. We just have to get the most out it.

I hope you are right. Trying to keep my expectations in check. Tough to go from the bottom to the top in one year, but we have certainly done the opposite before.

Not saying we will win conference, but unless we have a big roster turnover, I expect us to be in the top third.

RE: I don't know how much you can compare the situations, but
I think if we keep up the good, consistent scoring offense going and just simply focus on playing tougher D, then we may have a good shot at being top tier. Also the turnovers need to go down and FT% needs to rise but I blame that on immaturity and over competing. However, that should be fixed by the coaching staff. If it is not next year, don't expect me to praise coach Walker next.

We return everyone except Koljanin unless some transfer or drop. I have a bit of fear of losing someone to transfer but we will see what happens this off-season.

The recruits for next year look solid so far. However, I want to see a tough Joe Foley schedule. We may not get as many non-conference wins but it will test the young players of this team. This is a wish because I doubt that it will happen.

Overall, I enjoyed watching this team better than last year. Last year's team would not have won or have been in some of the games we've played this year. Also the talent is way better. So in that perspective, I'll say that there has been good improvement.

Last year's team did not have Rayjon Tucker. That's the main difference to me.

My wife pointed out when Darrell was talking next season, he mentioned Markquis, Nikola, and Kamini as key returnee, but didn't mention DeAndre or Rayjon. Hopefully, means nothing be the graduate transfer rule really scares me. Before that rule, you never had to worry about a 5th year player transferring because they wouldn't have any eligibility left after if they transferred. Now it can really hurt you if you've redshirted a player for any reason.
