RE: UTSA Game Thread
A tougher schedule would help this group.
Wonder if Eshan fires anybody after this season.

I know I post as if I am much of the time.
Good thing is that, we are being allowed to have open discussions without name calling and a constant stalker-like individual following everyone he disagrees with and replying to everything they say to extend thread post counts to twice as much as what they currently are. So, I say thank you for that.

Who after 10 games thought this was a top CUSA team. This team has Mahtar, Lovan, Bryant, Lew and Scott..that's it..we need two legitimate bigs. We need two legitimate wings. Let's hope Eshan pull it together because he will be our coach next year. No I am not happy with the direction of the program. With the exception of Murry's last year, I remain hopeful. As far as conferences ask SMU, VCU Butler if conferences makes a Difference.

Indeed. Everybody that posts here regularly is a diehard fan in their own way. A lot of us hold degrees from UAB. Doesn't speak very well for our school for us to be shouting Idiot at each other. Unlike most of our fellow grads and surrounding community, we care and are passionate enough to talk about the Blazers. No such thing as a bad UAB fan to me. Every time I see somebody else in Blazer gear, I always give them a Go Blazers. Frankly, there's not enough of us to be picky.

Just out of curiosity, what has anyone said in this thread that would make you say that?

A positive note, seven turnovers for the game.
In the past eight games, the team is averaging nine turnovers per game.
three of those games the teams had 7, 6, and 5 turnovers for the game.
Very impressive team statistic, especially this time of the season.

RE: UTSA Game Thread
Do some fans actually believe Ehsan is getting abused on this board? LOL
Bryant Vincent got a hell of a lot rougher treatment on BT and his team kicked ass almost the whole season!
Re-read this thread. Ehsan isn't called any names, cursed at, or derided personally in any way. He's been handled with KID GLOVES at UAB. Gene used to deal with "journalists" in this market that wrote and said things he didn't like. Now they never write about us so not a problem. Do UAB fans get on talk radio and blast Ehsan? No, the shows would have to bring us up first and that ain't gonna happen. UAB basketball is a non-entity to the local media and the community.
Fans get upset because they CARE. There aren't enough left that care about UAB basketball to cause a collective ripple in the local consciousness. The many thousands of UAB fans that don't attend games (but do show up for football) aren't boycotting or angry with Ehsan. They just don't care.

It's really embarrassing how far we've fallen. There's several issues with the program right now, but we need out of this league in a big way. As long as we retain Clark, I think football stays in good shape. We better hope solid football + new stadium + recent facility investments (sans basketball) get us in a better league.

The UAB Blazers are in C-USA only because the decision to kill the football program was reversed (Thank GOD!). During that "dead zone"(12/2/14 to 6/1/15), I did not hear from any insider BlazerTalker of ANY other conferences pounding on our AD's door with invitations to join them. We are in the conference Gene Bartow got for us, and we are likely to stay here for a long time. While the Blazers have more wealth than we became used to having (1980-2018), we are still in the low annual income range for current higher (AAC or P5) conference demands. Their conference "family" is not looking to add "poor relations" to their number.

THAT is bull**** and it sullies his legacy to suggest it. We are in the conference Coach Bartow got us out of in the early 90's. Gene believed we should be with the likes of Memphis, Cincinnati, and Houston. League games vs UTSA, FIU, FAU, etc. were definitely NOT part of his vision for UAB athletics.
Gene saw what was coming and got us right where we needed to be. The inheritance he bequeathed to UAB was pissed away by treachery and incompetence.

I agree. I’ve said for two seasons now that I think it’s more additive to go play Syracuse in the Carrier Dome than Mississippi College in front of 2,000 people at home. I know we are trying to get our 18 home games for the season ticket holders but having multiple D2 (non-exhibition!) games is embarrasssing.
Also I agree that Ehsan needs an elder statesman assistant. He relies a lot on his assistants for in game coaching. I mentioned something to my friend about some in game adjustments I saw. We were right behind the bench and a team manager turned around and quietly nodded at me.
The play where Jhivvan hit the three at the halftime buzzer was a perfect microcosm of the game.

I don't believe that Coach Bartow foresaw multimillion dollar coaches' salaries either. The explosion of costs in the revenue sports competition was not obvious in the 1990s. UAB is in the conference it is in based on the cost realities of 2019, not the 1990s. (My Crestwood home was bought in 1965 for $20,000, was valued in 1990s at $70,000 and was sold last year for almost $200,000) We may not LIKE our conference "neighborhood", but we live there based on our collegiate costs of living. As is said in real estate, "If you want to live in a better neighborhood, get a better paying job".

RE: UTSA Game Thread
Since the season is about over, I just wanna say if Anderson had a ten man rotation here and was successful. Why the last three coaches decided to run 8-9 man rotations? Anderson probably recruiting wise was the worst one we've had lately.
How or when will Eshan show growth. E.g.
Stop the Haase crap ( Haase is losing still in P5 land) and maybe go back to a traditional lineup (Davis was great with this).
Try a 10 man rotation.
Fire an assistant (Don't know what any bring and I mean all three even the Chicago recruiting guy if he can't get top Chicago talent no shot at Tamell).
Player evals, progession, and player roles
Who didn't foresee Tamell not playing well this year? He missed a whole senior year almost with eye injury. And we redshirt an outta shape guy, which was crazy because he probably wouldve been in shape by conference play just practicing. This is just one.
Recruiting and youth.
Still don't understand why he didn't play Hurtado at all, in comparison to playing McCoy mins. I get McCoy is a good on ball defender but that's about it. Seem to have favs and that's never good.
