At what point should John and Jane Doe care? Why or why not?

It's a thorny issue, because the USA is trying to gain more access to Chinese markets to do this very thing the other way. If we truly believe in free trade and the free flow of capital we can't stand in the way of this practice, I think Trump is only trying to buy time to get American steel producers up to world standards of quality and productivity.

This may be the other side of the coin. One can try to separate business from personal but here’s how the Chinese government addresses those who don’t toe the line from a personal perspective. Mind you these are not political dissidents who were arrested and put in the hard labor camps and tortured.
Hard to believe it goes softer on those they would occupy say like the Taiwanese (in Communist China as Crosshairs) or others that they would have leverage with like the Indonesians and the Mining pits the communist Chinese own there.

The communist party in China is like a drowning man desperately hanging on for dear life. They're already let the genie out of the bottle, they can't put it back in again.

In the purest sense, yes. But that will take 100+ years. Those in power, a good number of them, will not allow for it to be taken away.

Their version of "capitalism" is to amp up income, addicting others but then rationing it WHILE controlling every aspect otherwise. No toe the line there are a million or so ready to fill your single spot.

More importantly, the Chi Comm military is tied to every single "private enterprise". Every American company on the mainland must have a native partner. This isnt Air BnB. Come on in and use my house and resources for a fee. It is stealth. It is diabolical. It is getting info as the article suggests and with an upper hand they dictate.

Building those islands in the S. China Sea aren't Sandals Resorts for the king pins. They are military and espionage through and through. Controlling and dictating is the goal. Those at top believe they are superior to even their own brethren. To treat them as they do anyone from the outside ... not so nice.

The communist party in Russia fell, it will in China as well. I have no doubt about it. That's the glory in capitalism, you can fight it but it can't be constrained forever.

People everywhere strive to be free, it's a natural force of nature. The folks I talk to over there acknowledge their system is corrupt, if you start with that openness the dissolution of the system can't be far behind.

Phil the "party fell"? Putin is communist through and through. The elections are a charade. It's unadulterated power. No different in China. Just not posing on a horse bear chested.
