WBB Game 27: Marshall (15-12, 9-5) @ ODU (17-9, 8-6)
On Saturday the Monarchs will host Marshall in the last conference game of the year. ODU is trying to avoid their longest losing streak of the season, three games. But honestly, it’s a out trying to get back on track as ODU has lost four of their last five games.

For the season, Marshall is 15-12 with a RPI ranking of 201 and SOS of 264. Since they beat ODU in the conference opener 57-48, they have gone 8-5.

If you looked at just conference games, Gore is averaging 21.0 ppg and is the second leading scorer in the conference. The team feeds off her, but what makes Marshall dangerous on offense is that they have good shot selection. They have five players who average 20 minutes who shot higher than 40% from the floor. Four of them are good three point shooters. They can spread their offense around. That is the kind of team that ODU has had trouble guarding lately.

Conference Only Stats

PPG……….66.8…………65.7
OPPG…….66.9…………60.7
FG%......41.8………..41.2
OFG%....42.8……….39.4
3P%......35.0……….30.7
O3P%....33.2………..32.9
3MPG…..8.5…………7.0 (expect a lot of three’s in this game)
FT%......73.1……59.9
FTPG……10.3………11.0

SPG……..6.4……….7.4
BPG…….2.0……….2.4
Ast/TO ratio:
Marshall: 0.89, ODU: 0.88

For the season, ODU’s free throw percentage stands at 60.8. So to have a Conference free throw percentage of 59.9 shows we have gone nothing but backwards as the season has progressed.

Conference USA Standings. At this point, Rice has wrapped up the regular season as the number one overall team. At the bottom, FIU, FAU, and UTSA are trying not to finish in the final two so they can go to the tournament. ODU has a longshot if they want to finish in the final four. More than likely, we will play on opening day.
Rice 14-0
UAB 10-4
Middle Tennessee 10-4
Marshall 9-5
WKU 9-5
ODU 8-6
Southern Miss 8-6
Charlotte 7-7
North Texas 7-7
La Tech 6-8
UTEP 4-10
UTSA 2-12
FAU 2-12
FIU 2-12

Final Score. ODU 79, Marshall 53. ODU made 13 threes. Ajah Wayne had 21 points (17 points in the first half), Aziah Hudson scored 15 thanks to 5 3's, Amari Young had 12 points and 11 boards, Edwards with 11 points, 7 assists, Dejah Carter 11 points, 8 boards, and Maggie Robinson with 9 points, 6 boards. Nice team game. ODU had 39 three point attempts, literally over half of our shots where behind the arc. ODU wins the battle of the boards, 44-37 including 6 offensive boards. Which worked out well for us. We shot a lot of threes and were able to get those offensive boards. A lot of times when you shoot that many threes, it's usually one and done.

Morris has a right foot injury, that has caused her to miss five straight games. Beyond that, I can't tell you much. I wouldn't count on her against Longwood on Monday. Then again, considering they are 3-24 (2-15) we "should" be able to win without her.

This was a big win for the conference. No ODU won't finish in the top 4 since WKU has the tie breaker over us. But we might be the number five seed, where we might face off against a 2 win team (UTSA, FIU, FAU)....thus giving us a favorable first round opponent.
Top of the standings....
Rice 15-0
UAB 11-4
Middle Tennesee St 11-4
WKU 10-5
ODU 9-6
Southern Miss 9-6
Marshall 9-6
Charlotte 8-7
