Swim at CUSA Championships
We're not going to win the meet (with 1 day left to go). But we look to be doing very well, and I'm guessing would have had a chance to win if there was no diving. Basically, everything is Rice and FIU.
I'm very impressed with Schillinger's time in the 100 breast. Breaking 1 minute in that event is a big milestone. That time should easily get her into the NCAA Championships. I'm not sure what other swimmers could make the NCAA's but there may be some others who have a chance.

Good to hear. Swimming has been one of the most consistently excellent varsity teams over the last decade, right up there with women's tennis.

It’s still unclear to me why we don’t try to recruit a couple divers as walk-ons (using the Rice Investment/generous financial aid).
Seems odd that every other school has a diving team but we don’t..

Yea I don’t get it. I’ve always been told it’s a coaching decision but we have swimmers on small partial scholarships so I’m not sure why we can’t get divers. I knew swimmers who also did diving in HS and were not even allowed to try at Rice.

As I understand it, the decision has been that we do better having more swimmers and getting more points in the swimming phase than we would get by having a diver or two.

Yeah, I understand that’s the theory.. But I just wonder why most every other program has chosen to not go in the same direction.

One, I'm not sure how our total scholarship commitment stacks up versus NCAA maximum limits or what other CUSA schools do. Two, and this is totally heard through the grapevine, my understanding is that we don't really have appropriate training facilities for divers. I don't know enough to evaluate this one. Maybe someone more knowledgeable can comment.

Do we have anything close to Stanford's Maas Diving Center, which is one of four pools in the Cardinal's Avery Aquatic Center)?
It has "a concrete dive tower with platforms at 1, 3, 5, 7.5 and 10 meters. The dive tower is flanked on each side by dual one-meter and three-meter springboards."

The short answer: No.
We have 1M and 3M boards (and not a separate well). That said, the side of the pool the boards are on is plenty deep for diving.
