On the defensive end and he seems to be one of our best on as far as positioning / awareness / hustle. Saw an opportunity to trap in the corner and forced a turnover while keeping good positioning on his guy in the man-to-man. I don't think he was beat once and was quick to help when needed.
Cringed when I saw Lewis dribbling away the clock at the end of the half. It's one thing when you are forced to take a desperation shot. For the life of me I don't know why we settle for "take the ball and create on your own with 9 seconds left" philosophy. But we shot below 30% or so in our normal offense so I guess it didn't truly matter.
When Urbach gets to play, I also focus on him. He's actually one of the few guys who seems to understand the fundamentals. His catch-and-shoot is excellent, especially when the passes land where they are supposed to, (not down around the ankles or way over the head), allowing that nice shooting rhythm. I can't figure out why he didn't get more and more minutes as the season went on.
Our defensive "concept" appears to willingly allow the other team to get that jump-out switch mismatch where our big guy, Wilson, trades places with our littlest guy, Parker, allowing their big man to score 29 points and dominate the game. (There is so much more that could be said about our defense, but why bother.)
Another play that really got me yesterday, it actually happened more than once, was after a W&M player shot the ball, we allowed him to advance to the rim, unobstructed to pick up the rebound and dunk the ball. WTF! This is Fundamentals 101, box out the shooter!
For me it used to be that the other "lesser" sports at JMU were a way to fill the time while waiting for the "big" sports seasons. Boy, that has changed as I can't wait to get me some SOFTBALL! Actually softball means more now than ever, thank goodness.
