I disagree with your disagreement. You trying to tell me if he wants to fire Monty, the BOT will disagree and stop him? I don’t think so. Frazier is the boss of Athletics. As long as finances are there to do it, the BOT won’t stand in his way. It’s moot anyway, because Monty ain’t going nowhere for a few years.

Get ready for a big drop off next year. Any win will be cause for celebration. And Monty will continue making excuses on the post-game shows. They’d better have nice give-aways to keep people coming to the games.

I was at the game today. The OSHA NIU lunch bag was nice. If they give away nice things and publicize it, people may come. Certainly it won’t be to watch the basketball team. The group of season ticket holders I sit with stopped coming weeks ago. I’m wondering if they’ll be back next season.

The Board of Trustees and President Freeman have too many other issues to deal with, plus there is simply no place to find the money for a buy-out. Quite frankly Frazier has made enough foolish decisions to merit his departure as well, but that won't happen either.

Agreed. Both should be done with their employment at NIU. Frazier can do whatever the hell he wants though, no one is evaluating his job performance. I honestly think Coach Montgomery wants to be fired at this point.

I'm glad the home game season is over. If German isn't coming back, I may not be back either. With McCarty and Ritchie as the leading point scorers it could be ugly next year.

Speaking of Ritchie, when you shoot 18% of 3 pointers you really shouldn't be taking 3 pt shots! Statistically the other team is probably making 4-5 points for every 3 pt'r he makes. THAT is how you lose games. 1-5 today and the one he made banked unintentionally off the glass from a side shot!

Updated projection of mine has NIU headed to Akron in a 10 vs 7 matchup, and then if a W, headed to Cleveland for a battle vs the Rockets. That is brutal!

MAC Tourney Projections through 3/2 games and simulating remainder of season

#1 Buffalo 16-2 vs #9 Ball State 7-11/#8 Eastern Michigan 8-10
#2 Toledo 13-5 vs #10 Northern Illinois 6-12/#7 Akron 8-10
#3 Bowling Green 13-5 vs #11 Ohio 6-12/#6 Miami 8-10
#4 Central Michigan 11-7 vs #12 Western Michigan 2-16/#5 Kent 10-8

Playing WMU at WMU would be brutal.

Thanks for the solid work on projections. Two home games left. NIU lost to Ball State by 1 at home, and to CMU by 9 at home, so two more losses at those on the road is (unfortunately) likely. I see Ball State as a maybe. Maybe a maybe. And lost by 2 to Akron at Akron. Be interesting to see how close you are. Anyway, good work, and thanks again.

Thanks! EMU is the big wildcard, specifically the game against Ball State. If EMU does not go 0-2 in their last two and can split, you would probably see EMU jump up to the 6 line and Akron and Miami fall back a spot. That would put NIU back in Oxford most likely. Huskies look pretty locked into a 10 at this point. Pretty tough to envision NIU beating CMU or BSU isn't it? Really disappointing to beat Buffalo and then you cannot even use that leverage in a tiebreak scenario, ugh

Didn't we start out 5-3?
To end up 6-12 is brutal.

To put that 5-3 in perspective, two of those wins were at home against Rockford and Illinois Tech, and Northern only beat IT by 7. No offense to them, but not exactly powerhouses. The 3 other wins were commendable (Oral Roberts, Oakland and UCDavis). But ... water under the bridge, over the dam, down the river. Or is it chute?

As for Buffalo win, MaddDawgz02, it was great while it lasted, but then 1-7 in the next 8. The enthusiasm from that game went nowhere. Again, more water. It'll all be academic in a week.

Pvk75, you are confusing the record. The 5-3 start refers to the MAC season not the start of the b-ball season. And they have finished the MAC season thus far by going 1-7

You are absolutely correct, and thanks for setting it straight. Ironically, they were also 5-3 in the first 8 games.

We did not in this game nor any game since who knows when has anyone become a good, go to, outside shooter I believe we made 7 of 21 Saturday afternoon. Without an outside threat we have little chance of keeping defenses honest nor can we stage any comeback.
I will say that the refs did a poor job but that's my opinion. I was at the game.
Bright spot was Mccarty...he seems to be getting better with his offense..
He should be a bigger contributor nex t season.

OldtimeNIU, German was 6-10 from the 3pt in the game. German makes the second most 3’s a game amongst MAC players and shoots the 3 at a .411% which is 4th best in the MAC. He is a great 3pt shooter

With this being NIU's projected peak season in the Montgomery era, how in the world do you sell next season. Lower level of talent with same flawed coach who basically said he regrets being here. We talk about death environments in the Convo this year, just wait until next year.

He said that he should have paid attention to people that warned him, don't just get a head coaching job to have a coaching job, make sure its a program you can succeed with. He said he should have listened to that. I just have no idea how you can go into next season with Montgomery as the head coach and expect to sell 1 ticket. I, like many here, have lived through some AWFUL AWFUL years of Huskie basketball and football, but what makes those years bearable is the idea that there is an effort to build to something better. Right now, basketball feels like the child left at the grocery store, no one seems to care.
