Good read about how Houston Basketball was rebuilt

TLDR: Hire a good coach that holds his players accountable, then spend the money it takes to allow him to succeed with a new practice facility, major arena upgrades, and dramatically boosted assistant coach salaries.

A jump up in conference would be the 1st thing contributing to all of the other things.

That's great for them. Now all we need is to have a University President that is 100% bought in on Athletics, & Get a Billionaire booster to give 20 million, and a Board of Trustees to allow it to happen, then we are all set. To go along with "Start out in a better conference & be in the 4th largest city in the U.S."

We need them to give 80 million. 20 mill for the practice facility, 60 million in arena upgrades.

I went to U of H, and even back in the Phi Slama Jamma days, Hofheinz Pavilion wasn't very nice. Over the years since it went downhill. UH badly needed that cash injection into their facilities, no doubt.

I read that the AAC has eight teams in the Top 100. That sort of schedule helps a lot as well, both in SoS and attendance.

If you're winning, anyway. 03-hissyfit

Five of those top 100 net teams are old Cusa 2.0 teams. Just idle speculation, but I've always wondered what would have happened to the OBE teams Cincy, USF, and UConn if those Cusa teams had stayed put in Cusa rather than joining the OBE. I think the only alternative would have been for at least Cincy and USF to rejoin Cusa or else go indy in both revenue sports which I doubt.

Would be an entirely different Cusa that's for sure.

All we need to do if follow the Clark blueprint. Find the Bill Clark of basketball and go from there. A coach with a solid basketball mind, and solid experience.(Not Mike Davis) Our team isn't far from being a championship challenger.

Maybe we can play off-campus. It seems to help.

If it allows us to sell alcohol at games, I’m all for it!

Why not just sell alcohol at games on campus

I feel like there was a NCAA rule about not selling alcohol at on campus venues... though I think that’s recently been changed.

It’s been a long held belief by many that this is an NCAA rule, but to my knowledge, it’s never been true.

RE: Good read about how Houston Basketball was rebuilt
If the city of B'ham wants to sell alcoholic beverages at a local venue - like Legion Field - there is no authority to block them legally. The 21st Amendment ended FEDERAL prohibition and gave control to the states. Alabama, in turn, passed that control to its cities and counties as "local option" issues. That is why Alabama has wet/dry cities in wet/dry counties. (This worked to the advantage of the "Greek organizations" at colleges since they had the political pull to offer liquor and keg beer at their parties and other social functions at a time when these were illegal in those cities and in much of the state.)

It is more likely to be state law (ABC power) covering state universities and their programs than any NCAA rule. Just like the state does not want scholarship athletes receiving illegal income, they don't want anyone at state university functions to consume alcoholic drinks. RIGHT????

No one is crazy enough to make up "stuff" too outlandish for us to have seen it happen in Alabama politics. In the 1950s the state prorated the SETF budget five straight years - including teacher pay. They were NEVER reimbursed. No other state's Governor has blocked a state citizen from attending its state university for racial reasons. No other state used "Storm Trooper" assault tactics to block a peaceful protest march on a state highway.

No other state has had the main head of all three state government branches be removed by conviction, resignation to avoid impeachment or be TWICE removed from his office for unethical conduct (now the latter speaks of a 2020 run for our U.S. Senate seat). How about the Alabama 2016 statute that effectively guarantees that Alabama's workers will remain the cheapest a company can get anywhere in America? You just can't make this "stuff" up.
