UAB baseball at Regions Field
It was a beautiful day in Birmingham on Sunday and curious why the baseball team didn't play at Regions Field? Great start for Blazer baseball! The team is hitting the ball extremely well. The team looks really improved.

Last I heard, I think, was that UAB baseball was playing in a 'tournament' sorta thing down in Troy.

They transferred to Troy in order to have dry weather, per the e-mail from the AD's office.

Probably all the rain had completely saturated the outfields and had inundated the drainage system. I cannot speak for weather knowledge about Birmingham, but The National Weather Service was expecting a top 5 all time flooding event for Huntsville, (post TVA) late last week.

Fields in Birmingham were absolutely saturated and would have destroyed the grass.
Troy was away this weekend at La Tech and gave us the use of their field. They have an all turf field I believe so it made since.
Nice gesture also from Troy

RE: UAB baseball at Regions Field
Samford played home games all weekend. The outfield was wet on Friday but fine on Saturday and Sunday. I bet the Barons would have played at Regions if they had home games under the same conditions. I love going to UAB games at Regions but not so much at Young. I'm not familiar with arrangements UAB must follow at Regions? Maybe UAB is not allowed to alter game times at Regions due to weather issues?
One odd home venue later in the season involves UAB playing a home conference series at Lawson. I believe the Barons are on the road the same weekend.
I did see where UNA played their home games at Jax St this past weekend.
It's great to see everyone helping each other out with so much rain.
Thank you Troy. Really nice gesture.

RE: UAB baseball at Regions Field
I agree with you about watching games at Regions but not YMF. I was sad that they didn't play in town as well, especially now that there are only two more scheduled weekend series at Regions until next February :(

Is there some way we can get a text alert system so the athletic department can send alerts of time, date, or venue changes to the fan base? Everyone tells me to "go look at twitter" but two Saturday's ago they moved Sunday's game to Saturday and played a doubleheader but there wasn't a word about it on twitter before the first game started. I understand that they sometimes need to make changes quickly due to weather but your fans would appreciate a better way for us to stay in the loop.

See guys? We're not all a bunch of toothless a-holes with a farm silo as a water tower. We have a heart.

Speaking of hearts, I thought it was funny when UAB mentioned that they were starting to use pig hearts in humans.

Reminded me of the South Park episode where they made fun of momma June's kid (can't remember the name) by giving it a pig heart.

Why did the Radford at UAB DH on Saturday relocate from Regions to Young?

It turned into a double header therefore maybe they didn't want to destroy the field as much.

It seems like the Barons don't want UAB playing at Regions.

Great job Blazers with the DH sweep over Radford. Maybe all the games need to move back to Young. This team can hit and Young is a much more friendly hitters park. If all of the important conference games are at Young, it might be better to play there from day one. It's too bad the Barons won't cooperate.

Except the 1st season playing over there, I believe they don’t play games at Regions once the Barons start playing. The series at Lawson is due to the CUSA softball tournament being held on campus that same week.

Part of the agreement in building Regions Field included a land swap with UAB. If UAB doesn't agree to that, Regions Field doesn't exist. Seems like the Barons would be more cooperative.

They want us at Regions. We even have our own separate locker room there just for UAB Baseball. A lot of the moving is more to do with the DH aspect than the wet fields. At least that is what I was told.

Once AA ball begins, the Barons' schedule takes precedence over UAB's schedule. UAB plays more home games at Regions than at Young Memorial each season. Field conditions determine where and when we play this time of year. It's nice to have options instead of cancelling a series like many teams do.

The Barons and UAB baseball schedules have only one common home date during the entire 2019 season. College baseball will likely always have to alter game times and play DHs due to weather and time constraints. That was my point when I said it seems like the Barons are not cooperating when UAB needs to move a start time or play a DH. Then having to play at Lawson when the Barons are out of town seems unnecessary.
UAB baseball needs Regions Park to compete with other top C-USA programs. I just hate UAB can't play an extra 10-15 games at Regions in April and May with good weather.
