I have no idea if the Mike London era is ultimately a win/loss success. I've been very impressed with the atmosphere and "attitude" the coaches are spreading. Every interview, tweet, or appearance gives off the vibe that W&M is special and the place to be. You can feel the swagger from current players when they talk about the program. They' ve pushed for student body involvement. They've been all in on recruits early and often. They've been active with area high school coaches - hopefully cultivating relationships that will ease recruiting efforts. That is crucial for getting in on top PWOs.

Gone are the days of Nike sponsored pros showing up for our camp. It's all about prospects and P5 coaches now.

I thought there’d be a lot of discussion regarding spring ball this year. This staff is definitely touting a different approach. I’d be curious to hear how it’s going!

Pretty sure the firing of Tony Shaver is dominating the minds of the most ardent Tribe fans. I'm sure the interest is there...just focused on something else at the moment.

I really liked the Bill Murray interview in the DP. Seems to be a lot of energy around the spring practices. I especially enjoyed the "fastest I've ever played football" quote.

I think must of us can spit, chew gum, and avoid the residue on the sidewalk ... all at the same time.

The Shaver fiasco has no bearing on football.

The quiet and serenity is probably due to the fact that most folks are in a watch and see mode .... and performing an objective analysis.... before launching into petulancy.

Also, the UVa experience is hovering ... and some may be a little leery.

So far, so good!

What I gathered is there's an emphasis on conditioning, tempo, and enthusiasm. One practice down and, I believe, another today.

Murray and Adkins seem impressed.

A more thorough account will take place during the spring game but we won't know much about the team or new system for five months or so.

Hope the OL comes together and I'd like us narrow the QB depth by July. Dean Rotger has the running ability coveted by this staff.

I should also point out that, since my graduation in 1980, there has been an annual consistency in the football program at a high level under Laycock, and there’s no reason to think that this will not continue under London.

Men’s hoops didn’t reach that type of consistency until the recent past under Shaver.

So, there’s probably a quiet confidence associated with the football program.

All petulance aside, though it would never be alluded to, any coach worth his salt would have a return to his site of downfall, with an opposing team of Davids, etched in his heart and mind. Shakespeare is humming right now.

If that happens, they can lose the next 10 games ... and London is my guy forever!

Beating the ‘Hoos in Hooville is more important to this petulant one than winning the NC ... or ... dare I say it ... going Dancing!

I hope Brandon Battle gets a shot this spring. Wasn’t in the picture last year. He is very capable.

I agree on Battle. Marion runs a QB friendly offense as long as you can read coverages at the line. Reads are point in time rather than knowing all of the progressions ahead of time.

He certainly has the size. The fact that he's hanging in there after falling to #4 on the depth chart tells me he's a competitor. He just didn't perform well behind a very poor OL and I think he could put it together if he didn't have to run for his life.

RE: Spring Football
Just no way to even speculate on the eventual starting qb this early.

Perhaps we'll know more at the spring game but, unless somebody has really separated himself from the qb pack we probably won't know until well into August practice.

Who knows...maybe an incoming freshman will step up. Wide open.

I realize this is left over Nike gear but goodness those prices are much more palatable than anything current out there.

How is the WM Equipment staff listed on Facebook? Can you post a link? Thanks.
