Rutgers brings in a pitcher, whose first move is to throw to first (why is anyone's guess since only the runner on 3rd matters at this point). First baseman isn't covering, ball goes sailing away, ODU baserunner easily scores, and that's the ballgame: a walkoff pickoff attempt.

Thought those boyz attending the University of New Jersey (i.e. Jersey Boyz) were supposed to be edgeyKated. GUess I was wrong. I have never seen A SUCCESSFUL PICK OFF move to First with the winning run standing on Third. Very Risky move.

On paper, I sort of see it. If you're the runner on 1st and you know that you're not going to score, you might get complacent on the basepaths and susceptible to a surprise pick-off move. But in practice, yeah, risky move. Especially if your 1B isn't in on it.

But not in a 2-2 game in the bottom of the 9th, and with a pitcher who just stepped on the mound. The guy at the plate should be your one and only focus at this juncture unless the guy at first is pushing the issue and itching to steal. Just my opinion.

Btw, was there already a count on the guy at the plate or was he a new batter?

ODU improves its record to 7-2 today with a 12-5 win over Rutgers and wins the three game series with them in the process. Series finishes up tomorrow.

RE: March 1-3 baseball games
UTSA lost another 1-run game to Bradley. 4-3 last night, and 3-2 today. Had the bases loaded and one out in the 8th, and we hit consecutive pop-ups. In the 9th, we then hit a shot over the centerfielder's head with one out, which was a sure double. But for some reason, even though it was to centerfield, we decided to try and stretch it to a triple and got gunned down for the 2nd out. Next guy then struck out.

Gotta hand it to Bradley though. They have solid pitching. They beat us 4-3 and 3-2, and last weekend, they only gave up 2 runs in 2 games to MTSU (taking one of two against them). Our solid win over UT has now been negated by consecutive 1-run home losses to Bradley, though Bradley is now 6-2 on the season.

Meanwhile, the Longhorns, who were probably looking ahead to LSU when they played us, beat #2 LSU 8-2 yesterday and lead them 8-3 in the 8th today.

Rice beat #15 Baylor 6-3 today. It's amazing what you can do when you finally play error-free baseball (this was our first game of the season without an error).

RE: March 1-3 baseball games
Well after being as high as 5th in ERA nationally a few days ago, MT pitching in the double header was not near as solid, and though the bats were better, they were not good enough and lose two today. Could not maintain leads once the Raiders got them.

RE: March 1-3 baseball games
UTSA got a decisive 7-2 win over Bradley today, but losing the other two by 1 run each already put a damper on today's game for me. Hopefully our basketball team can get a win over UAB to compensate for a disappointing baseball weekend.

Rice with its 2nd very impressive win over a ranked team. We just run-ruled TCU 12-2 to finish 2-1 at the Astros/Shriners tournament. Even though we did have a 1-0 loss to Texas State on Friday, this week showed quite a bit of improvement for the Owls. There's hope this season still.
