Good News & Bad News (I'm talking of Injuries of course)!
Jaizec Lottie is expected to come back tonight according to the ADG

BUT.... as usual, when one comes in, one comes out.

Kamani Johnson has a concussion and is not travelling with the team for the Georgia schools.

I expect Bankston to get more minutes but we may have to play someone else (probably Hadzic) if he gets into foul trouble.

Right now, getting a guard back is more critical than losing a forward.

The paper suggested Damir is next in line at forward. What about Dani who has been starting, and Horace Wyatt who has started a bunch of games? I really like Kamani and he has a great future. But, if Chris and Nikola don't get in early foul trouble, I think we are okay with Dani and Wyatt getting more minutes.

Really not fair to judge Darrell this year because of the ridiculous amount of injuries. Does seem like we have key injuries, every year, except of course the Beard year. Is it just us or does it feel that way when you are a big fan of one team? Just for example, did the hogs have any key injuries this year? Last year? I would assume if they did we would be deluged by it in the media, even more than the "we are young" argument. Regardless, it does seem like Darrell and his staff our doing a really nice job recruiting. Getting players like Kamani, Markquis, and Nikola, so late in the recruiting process was really quite amazing. If we could somehow keep those guys together for 4 years, we would be pretty salty by the time they are seniors (probably even juniors) Looking forward to seeing what he brings in next season.

If do think the injuries feel worse when it is a team you watch closely.

1 - Nowell, Lottie
2-
3 - Wyatt, Hadzic
4 - Johnson, Bankston
5 - Maric

Presumably we will have all of these for two more years, at least. Plus the recruits.

I think it is fair to judge DW in his first season, injuries or no injuries. DW knew what he was getting into. If I was him I would expect to be judged. How did I do compared to last season when there was a full roster and not near as many injuries to deal with. We have a short roster by design. DW saved some scholarships for next year so he could keep recruiting. He has won more games than we did last season with a short roster. By saying you cant judge him this year because of injuries implies you dknt think he has done a very good job overall. He has.

I like Darrell and am optimistic about our future. But, I don't know how anyone can say 10-18 and very possibly not making it to New Orleans is a "good job". If I recall, the majority of folks on here were ready to get rid of Wes after he won 15 games his first season. We will lose 20 games this season and, off hand, I can only recall doing that last year and in Sidney's one season (both Wes and Sidney were gone after those seasons). Mostly because of injuries, I am willing to give Darrell a complete pass for this season. In other words, I am willing to withhold judgment on him as a coach. However, I am not willing to say he did a good job this year.

Give him three years. But he is going to have to improve a bunch to make it past that.

Record aside, this team is far more exciting to watch than any team that Shields coached. Now, let's get a lot more W's next year and we will be on the right track. Honestly, I've enjoyed all the dunks, pace and energy out of this team. Now the turnovers and crappy FT % is killing us. Now if we can get that cleaned up we will be much better.

Seems to me that I'm more of a "glass half-full" person when it comes to our men's basketball program than most on this board. Still, if we lose both this coming week, this year has pretty much been a disaster. Darrell certainly brought in some talent, but no way Wes doesn't win 10 games last year with Rajyon and De'Andre. Without Rayjon, Wes' recruit, we don't win 5 games this year. If we can win both this week, I won't feel that bad about this season. I figured if we won 14 or 15 games, double last year's total, this year would have been a "success". We win this week's games, we'll have 12 with a chance for 13. Not too far off from what was hoping for. Still, I'm not sure how realistic beating either ULM or ULL is. They both have a lot to play for as well. I guess that's one advantage of our crazy tournament format. Every single team has a lot to play for this week- whether it's a double bye, single bye, or just getting into a playin game.

Crossing my fingers, that if Kamani is back, we will break our season long "rule" of having a new injury every time we get a player back. We might have every player available next week, although how close to full strength Jaczec, Ryan, and Marquis are, I have no idea. I really don't think we are a bad team with everyone at full strength. Just don't know how cohesive we can be as a team, with playing different line-ups every week.

We have dealt with injuries all season with a short roster. Hit free throws and we would have won 5 more games

DW recruited well with what time he had.
Worst loss this year was 28 points at Nevada.
Last year, with a full roster we lost by 40 on the road
Lost by 30 st home
Lost by 28 first round of tourney.
We are scoring more points and have a much more exciting style of ball to watch.
The season could have been better. But I see improvement .

I don't have the delusions some have of us being the "next Gonzaga" or even being the dominant team in the Sun Belt. On the other hand, I honestly never thought I see us go 0-5, in the same season, against UAPB, ASU, and UCA- and all of those teams are well below .500 for the season. At least, UAPB is slightly above .500 in the SWAC. No doubt we have had more than our share of injuries. But, at best, this season has been very disappointing.

It is painful being irrelevant, isn't it?
