Yea, the original enthusiasm for the class may have been misplaced. We were top 3 at some point, then top 5... and now are bottom 4???

Really hope it's just ranking buffoonery and not reality

One of the things affecting our class is it’s small size (which isn’t really a problem). The other issue is that we haven’t closed well (which is a problem).

We can't sell kids a great education anymore. None of them care about that, and it destroys our recruiting.

Sadly, I think there is a real truth here.

New JUCO recruit - 6-0/210 LB Jaren Banks out of Oregon (that's why Bloomgren was up there), but played JUCO at New Mexico Military Institute. Ranked as the #7 defensive JUCO by one report and a 3-star recruit. Shows great speed and instinct based on his highlights, and based on how good our other JUCO defensive starters have looked, I'd say this is a really good pick-up (although I wonder if he projects as a safety?)

He has just one year of eligibility remaining.

His Stanford bio says he "did not see action" in his freshman, sophomore & senior years. If he didn't play in those years, why wouldn't he have more than 1 year of eligibility left now?

He presumably used his redshirt one year and the other three years count towards his eligibility, hence he has one year left. Doesn't matter if you don't play at all, each year still counts against you, unless that year is your redshirt year.

Maybe he’s on the Ramon Flanigan plan?

If that’s the case we’ve got him for four more years.

RE: 2020 Football Recruiting
Signing day today for those who didn't sign in December. We had 17 scholarship signees then, and my guess is we'll have at least half a dozen more today (some we know about, some we probably don't). This is a good spot for live updates.

First new name of the day to sign that wasn’t on my radar at all is this DB out of Miami.

Other FBS offers from Coastal Carolina and Akron.

He’s also the brother of the late Sean Taylor per The Roost.

The Roost also claims he’s the highest rated recruit in “program history” but I don’t see much evidence of that. I would take what the Roost said more seriously if they ever said ONE negative thing about a Rice program.

That's what we have this board for. ;-)

Regardless of whether he's highest ever... good to see he's at least the highest in the past ~10+ years.

I think he’s trying to be the “TexAgs” of Rice sports so this makes sense. Take his pro-Rice spin for what it is. As for Taylor, I think his ranking has a lot to do with his last name. Looks like a nice player though. Glad to have him.

I’ll be more excited if we land Narcisse from CA over Washington State, even though he’s “lower rated”.

Turns out Gabe Taylor hadn't played football since Middle School and just started again in his senior year. Interesting find - and sign.

He also plays basketball.

No evidence The Roost is following recruits into bathrooms, so that's good!

Excellent! This is looking like a really nice class. Even more intrigued with Taylor with the info NYNightOwl turned up.

RE: 2020 Football Recruiting
The one guy I don't exactly understand why he hasn't signed yet is Brian Hibbard.

He's following all Rice people on twitter, has been committed since April, and didn't sign in December. Maybe waiting on a test score...? But I find that hard to believe as usually those people "drop" sooner.
