Nice little dig at Charlie...

Yeah.....I read it that way too. 03-lol

I was just about to start a thread on this. Personally, I'd prefer to have Ellis join Suggs in the booth as a commentator.......because Ellis' experience at QB better qualifies him for that role, IMO. Maybe Morgan or someone else could be the play by play guy......

But Ellis is the man, they tell us.......so I'm all for it. Anything beats Charlie Mack. Ellis has a pretty good speaking voice, and with time, may develop into a fine announcer. I bet he has trouble containing his loyalty to USC........he's a true Gamecock, but I've always loved Ellis both as a player and as a person. I don't think he ever had a quality offensive line in front of him as a player, and he learned a new system almost annually.......he got a raw deal. So I'm happy for him.

And hey.......if MICK MIXON can go on to become the UNC play-by-play man (have you ever heard one of the Heels' broadcasts??), then surely Ellis can handle it.

I agree with ya Gal. I am withholding judgement until he does a few games.

You should see the threads on AST about this. The usual suspects are already pre-judging the guy.

I will say this about Ellis, I was at the Spring Game this year and I could hear his broadcast on the TVs above where I sat in the shade - and I think I could get used to it. He made some great points live that some folks likely heard on the CSS broadcast.
I had nothing against Charlie Mac (I actually will miss him on bball broadcasts) - mainly because I rarely listened to Football broadcasts - I always listened to the TV announcers due to the time delay of the live broadcast. For non-televised broadcasts I checked in mostly early in the year and could deal with it. I enjoyed Fulton most of all - but no-one could replace him IMO.

Right. No sense in trying to replace "The Voice".......Fulton is irreplacable.

I haven't been over to AST lately. Why are they hammering Ellis? The guy's pretty good. Good enough to deserve a chance, at least. Remember......studying up for a full-time play-by-play job is different than preparing for one of those cable TV broadcasts. Ellis will really have to prepare and do his homework.......and I'm sure he will.

I remember Fulton talking about the preparation he used to do in an interview one time. If Ellis takes that same approach, he'll be fine. I'm not worried about it in the least. And good riddance to Charlie "milktoast" Mac!

A horrendous choice. Simply horrendous. Even if it doesn't turn out to be a complete disaster, you have to wonder about any selection process that could have yielded such an unqualified selection.

We'll see. The first couple of games could be rough........but I would hope to see improvement by mid-season. I'm surprised they didn't go with Morgan. But I'm willing to reserve judgement and give Ellis a fair shot.

Frankly, right now I'm so worried about us just winning six games, beating Clemson and getting to a bowl, that I'm hardly concerned with anything else.

Don Williams. He should have gotten it after Bob left. But Carlisle Roddey of Chester High School fame would have been a better selection than Todd. At least he would have kept us entertained. He would have entertained the whole country before all was said and done.
