I'm not saying streaming content isn't the future but I do believe physical media is a lot more consistent. Streaming has lag, loading, compression, and a lot of other picture quality issues that physical media like dvd, BR, or 4KBR just don't have. And until the infrastructure gets a lot better and a lot more consistent for doing streaming type video I will always want the physical versions. Also, the way programs can get pulled on a whim from streaming services you never are sure you can 100% watch it again.

I agree, PTNC. Can't really figure why so many people pay at the redbox to rent when for the same price they can own their own copy and watch whenever they want for decades. Streaming, well, okay they don't want the physical copy around and are willing to suffer the inferior quality and issues you mentioned, but the redbox thingy's? The used CD stores, thrift stores, etc.. plus online have 'em available everywhere you turn. Plus the Library has and regularly sells a lot for free/very cheap..

I'm a fan of physical media for archival purposes. I'll watch a ripped Blu-Ray over streaming content any day. And if I were underneath the thumb of an evil capping ISP, doing so would save me considerable GB per movie on my monthly streaming cap.

While I will "rent" a movie by streaming/on demand, I refuse to buy any media (books, movies, video games) if I dont get a hard copy. I know I'm an old fuddy-duddy, but I think going all digital media is a mistake. If I can't turn around and re-sell it then I don't really own it and don't want to "buy" it. (I rarely resell them, but that's not the point.)


I was just thinking the other day how my enjoyment of listening to music has decreased substantially since digital took over that medium.

The thing about this digital music era is...

#1 albums are nearly no more
#2 digital music makes hit singles so much more important
#3 hit singles are too easy to get so people only know your "hits" and generally speaking don't go into your catalog.
#4 the sound quality of the digital file vs. cd is fairly apparent if you have at least decent gear so you getting less for your money.
#5 and even more so now, artists are kind of putting out there they want to get maybe two hit records out there, make their money, and jet... very few are striving for longevity and a quality body of work.

And quite honestly, this is happening in all genre's of music.

I will say though, this new digital age, has allowed the "garage band" start up to get their exposure a whole lot easier.
