The goal of the Treaty of Versailles was to cripple Germany to the point that they could no longer make war on their neighbors. The problem with that was that Germany was always going to default on those payments or otherwise face civil collapse. Hungry, cold, jobless men usually get violent to fix those issues after a while.

To keep the money flowing forever would have required Britain and France to basically be ready to attack Germany over money. That kind of policy rarely survives in countries where people vote for their leaders on a semi-regular basis.

The lesson to be learned:

Fundamentally forcing a change of the established order on a nation while simultaneously weakening them through withdrawing capital will get you someone like Hitler 95% of the time.

until the globe is reliant upon a single and transparent currency....

this is where the USD currently reigns supreme whilst the dippos only seek dilution....
