Belmont #24
ODU #25

I think its crazy to have the Zags ahead of UVA anyway...does anyone here think they would beat UVA (or even Duke for that matter?)

They already beat Duke this season.

RE: ODU in the Polls
The Zags and UVA are pretty close. Zags have the lead in offense, but slightly behind in defense (Zags ranked 16th).

Zags have beat:

79 Texas A&M
64 Illinois
86 Arizona
3 Duke
48 Creighton
41 Washington
58 San Fran (2)
75 BYU (2)
34 St. Marys (2)

Lost by 3 on a neutral to 7 Tenn and by 13 on the road to UNC.

UVA would be a slight favorite, but the Zags would have a good chance of beating anyone in the country. They are incredibly good.

They beat Duke early without one of their top players too, I seem to remember.

RE: ODU in the Polls
The issue with polls is inertia. A team like Gonzaga eventually becomes #1 when teams like Duke, UVA, UNC, Tenn, UK, all beat each other up. Gonzaga is absolutely DESTROYING everybody though, but it's hard to know how good they really are. Meanwhile, Duke and UVA split games so they drop each time... they are penalized in the poll for simply losing, even if it's to a Top 3 team. As long as Gonzaga keeps winning, they will never drop, regardless of opponent. You could make the case either way. Personally, I have UVA #1, but I can certainly see the argument for flipping them - and I have to be able to see it since I'm in the minority.

RE: ODU in the Polls
#1 will be decided in March Madness. The only difference between most of the top 10 is what kind of draw they get relative to their strengths and weaknesses. Whether you are number 1 or number 8 right now makes no difference. UVA was number 1 at the end of the regular season last year and I am sure they would have rather been number 10 and made a run.

Being the 4th #1 seed is usually a detriment because you usually draw the best 2 seed. Lately it seems that the 4th one seed has been in a location that is better for that 2 seed as well. Being overall #1 definitely makes a difference IMO.

It is all about matchups. Who the #2 seed is only matters if you both make it to the Elite 8. Last year, that only happened in 1 of the regions and the #1 seed won the game.

They have a tougher schedule than many of the powerhouse teams.

In the last 10 games, they've played 5 games against top 100 teams; included 2 games against #34 St. Marys and 2 against #75 BYU. (and 2 vs #109 San Diego)

RE: ODU in the Polls
St. Mary's at 34 is a joke. They've lost 11 games, including one to WKU, and their signature win is @ New Mexico State on November 14th. Not saying they are bad, but they aren't better than us because they played a tougher schedule and managed to eek out a single good win out of it against a decent mid-major on the 3rd game of the season.

Okay? You're using kenpom? Why didn't you look at UVA? In the last 10 games, UVA has played 9 top 100 teams and gone 9-1 in those games (only loss to #3 Duke). If you are going to include San Diego, I'm including GA Tech at 110.

Syracuse 35
Pitt 95
Georgia Tech 110 (if you are including San Diego)
Louisville 23
Va tech 11
Notre Dame 82
North Carolina 5
Duke 3 (L)
Miami 72
NC State 33

I was pointing out that Gonzaga has a tough schedule as well. We have every reason to believe they are a tough team, they haven't been playing cupcakes.
