Also, in second half vs.CMU, Mikayla Voigt went down. Foot or knee. Radio said she was checked, then sitting on bench, apparently ok, but no further info. Later, Gabby Nikitinaite and Erin Hodges collided. Also no further info. Hope they're all right!

The women play hard and deserve the accolades. Despite loss to CMU, Huskies are still in the middle of the pack.

Heard that as well. Hopefully next year Carlsen goes with a full roster rather than the standard 12-13. They need some depth not only for games but for practice. Puts additional work on coaching staff but this roster is really thin

I wondered about that. Full is 15, right? And with Courtney Woods and Janae Poisson out, that leaves 11.

Last season roster had 15 listed, then injuries struck. Don't get drop to 13 this year.

Sladek and Harris were on roster but never played. Starks and Poisson both gone last year with knees and Castro with her battle.

More of the same this year. Wollacott & Courtney & Poisson

Luckily they have male practice players or they would be exhausted. If there is a common theme with this program it’s injuries.

Dare I ask ... what happened to Nicole Orr, who transferred in from Butler a couple years back. She sat out a year (transfer rule) and then ... ?

She didn’t do much if anything. I believe she was also one of the M*A*S*H unit that came in banged up or got injured.

I don't follow Women's basketball. but saw CMU's record so looked at their schedule. Some impressive non-conference wins, and shocked they only are getting 1 vote in the top 25. Just seems weird

CMU is a perennial powerhouse. Last year they made the Sweet 16. Year after year, Coach Sue Guevara gets top notch players, and this has been going on for years. She is the type of coach who the players relate to and love to play for.

I believe WBB is like MBB and only has 13 scholarship players.

Yes and you can roster more than 13. That’s the point

Did the transfer from DePaul never make it? I thought she would be on roster and just not eligible to play this year.

RE: WBB Weekly Thread 2/24/2019
According to wbbblog.com, she is Vinisha Sherrod, 5-9, FR guard, from Bourbonnais, Il. Transferred from DePaul in spring/summer 2018, so I think the transfer rule would apply.

From DeKalb Chronicle, July 2018: Coach Carlsen, listing incoming players: "... and transfer Vinisha Sherrod ... Vinisha out of DePaul, she’s the best athlete on our team, like scary athleticism. She’s a guard, but probably plays better off the ball. With a year of learning expectations, she’s going to be awesome next year.” Carlsen confirmed Sherrod had to sit out.

RE: WBB Weekly Thread 2/24/2019
From May 2018 official post on AD website: Sherrod is ... a transfer, coming to NIU from DePaul University. As a freshman for the Blue Demons, Sherrod appeared in 20 games off the bench averaging just over four minutes per game. She scored a season-high six points against Xavier on Jan. 12. The five-foot-nine guard was a teammate of (6-1 Mikayla) Brandon's at Bradley-Bourbonnais High School, where she led the Boilermakers to the IHSA Class 4A sectional semifinals in 2017. She scored over 1,000 career points at Bradley-Bourbonnais and was an All-Conference and All-Area selection.

"Vinisha is a dynamic athlete who can create her own shot," said Carlsen. "She puts pressure on the defense in a variety of ways. Vinisha always plays with an aggressive mentality and that'll serve her well in our system. Her speed and athleticism will allow her to excel in our open court offense."

With the Transfer above, Woods back (hopefully fully), continued positive growth of Hodges and Blackwell, and others returning, this could be the best women's team since the 90s.

This is how badly the Men's team has fallen. I know way too much on the Women's side.

Good work pvk. Thanks for finding that info. Keep up the good work.

Agreed, with potential for 2019-20. But there are four games left this season, and Northern has already won against each (EMU, Toledo, Ball State and WMU). If history repeats itself (note, the potentially toughest one, Toledo, is @ Toledo), the best record going into the MAC tournament will be 20-10 overall and 12-6 conference.

As I understand the tournament format (please correct if wrong), the top 4 get byes in Round 1, the middle four seeds host the bottom four in first-round games at home (5-v-12, 6-v-11, 7-v-10 and 8-v-9), and the winners join the top 4 in Cleveland.

I believe that the transfer from DePaul left campus shortly after arriving last year.

RE: WBB Weekly Thread 2/24/2019
It may take some insider to clear this one up. When I checked further into DePaul wbb game reports on their website, she was mentioned last in January 2018 as being one of their hot three-point shooters. After that, not a single mention for the rest of the season. Then her transfer and sit-out at NIU was announced in May 2018. Don't know, but curious. Hope everything is ok.
