Dominate guards make the difference
I've seen this play out many a time and the team with the best guards win most of the time. Look at the CAA right now, Hofstra has one of the best scorers in the NCAA with Wright Fortman and they are on top, NE has a top guy in Pusica and C of C has another guy in Riller that kills it each night.

The bottom line is that if you have a "killer" shooter/scorer, you have an advantage. That's called an identity. UNCW has to get that guy or 2 that will step up.

Guys, it's always been this way. We had Blizzard, Goldsberry and Carter, then we had Talley, Ingram and Bryce plus Flemmings for 2 more CAA titles. If you have dominate guards/wings, you're going to win. And that really matters on the road! That's been the issue with this younger team IMHO.

Yes, defense is crucial and we need to meet metric standards such as deflections and being in position. That's important. Until an identity and roles are established for guys, it's tough. Perhaps that's being established we will see, but may have to be patient.

CJ and Flemings played the 3 95% of the time not guard

Ty Gadsden can be that guy next year as long as he continues to work.

Actually Flemings played the 4 spot, but who’s counting because you’re right that he was a 3 man. The deal is that you need confident quality out there and floor leadership. And, it may take time unfortunately.

Didn’t see the wings, comment.
Regardless this team has enough offense to get more Ws if we played consistent defense

RE: Dominate guards make the difference
Funny how our guards under a former Carolina player that coached at UNCW sucked, but all of the sudden they were good under Keatts. We finished tied for 1st after multiple years of suckiness. I guess Keatts just got lucky as they improved the same year he got here.

Jackson and Spruill were going into their senior year and emerging. Keatts did get great guys however. He lucked into Flemmings, got CJ, Talley and Ingram. Those guys could play.

Jury is out right now. Toews,Gadsden, Estime and Sims have good potential. All of them gave good effort today which is the most important thing to me. Yes, Kai had some rookie mistakes, but did a lot of good things too.

Flemmings' senior season is close to Tyler Seibring's except for steals, where Flemmings has 45 and Seibring has 9. In each category, Flemmings is first:

Field goal percentage: .510, .487
Three-point field goal percentage: .363, .396
Effective field goal percentage (made threes count as 1.5): .591, .579
Free throw percentage: .811, .800
Percent of field goal attempts that were threes: 44.5, 46.2
Rebounds per game: 5.8, 6.0
Assists per game: 1.6, 1.4
Turnovers per game: 1.3, 0.9
Assists/turnovers: 1.18, 1.54
Fouls per game: 2.1, 1.6
Blocks per game: 0.7, 0.5
Steals per game: 1.4, 0.3

I don’t get it. Why are we comparing Fleming’s with Seibring?

RE: Dominate guards make the difference
There's no specific reason. One thing you can think about is how much the CAA Team voters value a player on a co-champion 2 seed over a bad Elon team. Flemmings was on the First Team, and Seibring won't be.
