McMurphy's 2019 Bowl Predictions...

Affectionately known as “The Tidy Bowl”

I'm shocked at how our fans fail to realize the selling power a P5 win has over recruit's minds, regardless of how bad their record is. This means a LOT to commits/prospective recruits as well as the commits/prospective recruits who are interested in that P5 team who just took a loss to.

The P5 thing is undeniably an important factor. But it’s not the ONLY factor.

And I’d love to hear from a former recruit/player who has ever said or implied that their decision to enroll at X school was influenced by a bowl game against a P5 team. I talk to a lot of HS coaches in Ohio and a few of their players. They’re just not approaching this issue the way you’re describing.
So if USM beat a top 15 and undefeated Boise, a win over a 6-6 Wake Forest would be a better win? I don’t think so man.

That’s exactly what he’s saying, and he’s 100% correct. That’s just how it is, and the way it will always be.

And he's 100% incorrect. A victory over a ranked team most times will carry more weight than an unranked team regardless of P5/G5 status. You think beating Vandy or Arkansas right now is more impressive than beating UCF, Boise, or BYU?

Just because you're in a P5 conference doesn't mean you're a P5 caliber program.

No way, Chucko. If we beat an 11-0 #8 UCF, that is a far better win over a pos bottom feeder P5.
