RE: ND/Georgia Tech to play in Mercedes Benz Stadium in 2020, 2024
Ever since I bought tickets through Notre Dame for the Louisville game in South Bend back in 2014, I’m on the Irish mailing list. I get an invite to buy tickets to every Notre Dame sport and even get calls every year about buying football season tickets. ( Talk about expensive!)
Based on the prices of the tickets I get emailed about it is expensive to follow Notre Dame for any sport.
I have to add I have never been welcomed anywhere on the road like I was in South Bend. A simply amazing experience. My son said it best, you could almost feel the reverence on the campus.
I hope to return the hospitality to Irish fans that visit Louisville come September.

I"m not surprised to see Georgia Tech and Notre Dame scheduled to play at Mercedes-Benz. However, I expected it would probably be done as part of the Shamrock Series. I guess it still could be later on, but it would probably be 2027 before that would happen since Wisconsin is already the Shamrock opponent in 2021 when Notre Dame also hosts Georgia Tech.

GT is listed as an away game on their future schedules. I highly doubt GT or ESPN would agree to convert it. I'm assuming one of the other neutral site games, either Wisconsin or Wake, must be the Shamrock Series game. Otherwise ND would only have 6 home games, which would cost them both a gate and a pro rata reduction in their payments from NBC. Of these two, Wisconsin seems most likely, even though it is at Lambeau. The 2021 game between the schools in Chicago could be a Wisconsin home game since ND has six other home games scheduled plus an open date that could be used to purchase a game with a G5 opponent.

ND always has only six true home games when doing a Shamrock Series game.
All Shamrock Series games are ND home games moved out of South Bend to places like New York, San Antonio, Orlando, Dallas, Chicago, etc....
Away games and true neutral site games can never be a Shamrock Series game, only ND home games where they "take the home game show on the road".

Away games and true neutral site games can never be a Shamrock Series game, only ND home games where they "take the home game show on the road".
That is my understanding as well. My point is that ND has only 6 home games scheduled for 2020, and GT was previously announced as a GT home game, so either Wake or Wisconsin must be a Shamrock Series game. I am speculating Wisconsin because ND already has three home games with ACC schools in 2020. Wake would make four, with only two road games with the ACC. In 2021, ND already has 6 home games plus an open date suitable for a seventh home game, meaning that the game with Wisconsin in Chicago could be a Wisconsin home game. It seems likely that both games with Wisconsin will have the gate split 50-50, with the home team designation relevant only for television rights purposes.

According to this article, both games against Wisconsin are part of the Shamrock Series. However, it sounds like the rules are a little different than normal, as the Irish will be identified as the home team in Lambeau and the Badgers will be the home team at Soldier Field with the tickets being split.

Thanks for the research!! This confirms my analysis regarding designation of home teams for television, as well as the fact that Wake Forest will be an ACC controlled game for TV even though it is at a neutral site.

That is a departure from the previous Shamrock Series games, which were formerly all true home games moved from South Bend.
