I think the only team the ACC would even consider doing a "Notre Dame deal" with for #16 would be the Texas Longhorns.

I would agree.

How about a deal with UConn where ACC football teams don’t have to play them?

That's called the American Athletic Conference.

Seriously, they were only one of three teams we beat last year and we were HORRIBLE!

Also agree ...

Texas is one of the only schools who could pull off a football independent status, and truly "pull a Notre Dame". Having your own network certainly helps.

I also think that you are spot on with Baylor or TCU.

BTW Baylor just announced the construction of a new basketball arena.

I don't understand why the ACC needs to have 15th and 16th full members in addition to two partial members. Would the addition of TCU/Baylor/Houston will generate more revenue per school? Also, 18 teams are just too many for a basketball league. The only reason I can think of is to attract Texas. But accepting UT as a partial member is already a big concession. Should ACC make more concessions just to have Texas as a partial member?

Bleachergate.....I doubt you will see Texas schedule Houston for a very, very long time.

Well, the ND situation was different. The ACC needed more teams anyway to start the ACCN. Now we have the network and are not really desperate.

I hope the ACC doesn't make too many concessions to get Texas. If it does, hopefully it's OU and Kansas instead of TCU and Baylor because 1) OU and Kansas would generate more revenue and 2) this move will frustrate Big Ten.

RE: Will the ACC expand soon?
No to Texas. They have their own network, they’ll be fine ruling the Big XII roost. The ACC does NOT need that headache.

Random Guy made a great point, the basketball conference is already bloated. Some teams haven’t shown they can compete in the conference, yet people think adding more middling teams will work?

The ACC needs to stop now and make some minor scheduling changes to maximize capital, not add mid-level midwestern and desert schools literally nobody cares about. There have been two instances of 16 team conferences, and guess what? Both went down like the Hindenburg.

You are exactly right.

The ACC wouldn't have to add schools in Texas to "attract" Texas to join with a Notre Dame type deal.

With a football schedule with only 5 weeks taken by ACC teams, Texas has 7 left to schedule whoever they want to. If they want to schedule Baylor, or TCU, they can do so.

The "power" the ACC has is the flexibility to add one more partial member, and give Texas the gift of football independence, cementing (in their minds at least) football nobility status, along with Notre Dame.

I think you HURT your chances of adding Texas by also adding schools like TCU and Baylor.

Excellent points. The "gift of independence" is a valuable bargaining chip.

I posted nearly that same scenario back in 2012 under the title "The ACC's Doomsday Bomb"
