UC also plays UCF, Houston, and Memphis as in-conference games, plus the conference title game. If UC runs the table, we'll have a very good argument for inclusion in the playoff.
How'd you guys get Tosu to agree to a game. I thought the bucks never played any other Ohio college.

RE: FBS OOC schedules for 2019
We play @ OSU, vs. Tennessee Tech, @ Iowa, and @ Cincinnati, pretty rough though at least we get an FCS buy game. Last season we had vs. Marshall, @ UC, @ Minnesota, and @ Army, all which won seven or more games.

North Texas has a good OOC schedule for 2019..
8-31 Abilene Christian (buy a win vs. FCS team)
9-7 @SMU (36 miles down the road)
9-14 @Cal (1st game in a home and home)
9-28 Houston (1st game in a home and home)

Not that we will win any of these, but Rice hosts three P5s:
8/30 @Army
9/7 Wake Forest
9/14 Texas
9/21 Baylor
I think Wake Forest is a home-home, Baylor is the end of a multi-game home-home series, and Texas is a 2 for 1. The Texas game is at nrg Stadium, but a Rice home game.

RE: FBS OOC schedules for 2019
Quote:Shifts in demographics, cultural commitment to football in the Southeast and Southwest, and the lack of other competing entertainment industries all play into that. But it is what it is. And SEC fatigue by the rest of the nation is understandable. There's a great deal of envy and schadenfreude that goes along with that. But the simple truth is that outside of the Southeast Ohio State is the only school to win a national championship in the last 15 years since USC had their title stripped. Clemson and Florida State account for the rest.
I'd say that's more than a trend and I make that point to say when the SOS for SEC schools is impaired by their current business model, or when somebody tosses more cash our way, then we might change. But, I don't foresee any changes. Why change what's working? - Quoting JRSEC
You have a number of factors going on that explains why the SEC and B1G schedule the way that they do. Most of it has to do with structural issues that will never go away. Some comments:
- Both the SEC and the B1G are composed of primarily flagship schools in the land grant mold. That provides an economy of scale wrt to alumni base plus t-shirt fan draw that will never be overcome by the smaller schools (public and private) with the possible exception of Notre Dame. Even there, they have more pressure to deliver on the field than a large state school due to their huge reliance on nationwide t-shirt fans.
- The large flagships sponsor more sports (B1G primarily) and therefore require more home games to pay for these other sports. I don't think most SEC teams are in this same boat.
- There is an OOC scheduling "glitch" that is counterintuitive if your looking at the situations primarily based on SOS. The middle and bottom rung P5 schools should have the weaker OOC SOS because they have to play the best schools in their conferences. However, the mid to lower level P5 tend to play the stronger schools OOC in order to generate interest in these programs. However, outside factors like subsidizing an athletic dept will result in most of the top P5 schools in the B1G and SEC buying home games due to their ability to draw fans to the stadiums.
I understand why the SEC and B1G can schedule this way - especially those at the top of their respective conferences. I also recognize that some of those on top are not afraid to play big time games early as OOC - like Alabama and Ohio State.
I'd argue that while the current model can generate tons of cash for the SEC and B1G - it's a suboptimal business model if the goal is to maximize revenue. The top CFB brands should split from the rest and form their own division to truly maximize revenue. You may lose some of the alumni doing this but would get more interest overall due to more compelling matchups. Also, expanding the scholarship limits (if you can get around title 9) would cement the value of this new division. Even if you don't up the scholarship limit, you would still haul in the top end talent at better rates than today.
In bold, the comment about a lack of other activities in the south - I don't believe that is the case anymore. It may have cemented the CFB interest back in the 50s and 60s, but that is no longer the case today. However, I acknowledge it's tough to unseat a "king" when decades of cultural identity makes the sport into an institution.

Under Jim Tressel OSU scheduled a lot of in-state opponents. As I recall, this 2019 game originally was to be played in 2012 but was kicked down the road due to scheduling issues (on UC's part, we were looking at the Big East adding TCU and UCF at the time).
