Former-MAC on Former-MAC crime! Kill should shut up. Oh, he’s not wrong about Fleck’s self-promo skills, but Kill sounds bitter and whiny. Claeys left a PR mess and Fleck got people to forget about it. Kill wants Fleck and UM to keep reminding people how special the mediocre Kill-Claeys experience was. Nobody cares.

I remember Kill saying something about rebuilding NIU, but he didn't. NIU had a huge number of injuries the year before Kill arrived (2007), otherwise the team had a lot of talent. He did a good job at NIU but didn't rebuild it. Also, he left before the bowl game and IMO left mentally before the MACC.

Good point. Kill’s not above backhanding his predecessors and/or looking out for #1, just like every other coach.

Kill isn’t wrong. Fleck is a very “your entire program was trash before I got here” kind of guy. Rubbed a lot of WMU fans and former players the wrong way, especially when he proceeded to have a 1-11 season his first year. Unsurprising it's rubbing Minnesota program alumni the wrong way too.

That being said, I see an SEC team hiring Fleck from Minnesota in a few years, especially with the Big 10 West being so blah. All it takes is a down year by Wisconsin or Iowa, like we saw this year with Northwestern winning the division. A couple years of that, and Fleck will bolt from his “dream school”.

That's an interesting prediction, if it eventually comes to pass you wonder if he can go up against the big boys. If the peter principle comes to pass and he burns out, he might end up at the MAC again. Dude is so young that he could come back and if he won here again he could go back to a P5 with time to spare.

Its not like Fleck inherited a bad Minnesota program. The 4 years prior they had 8,8,6,and 9 wins. Its a bit premature to speculate him leaving for a bigger job. Besides,I doubt Minnesota spent $300+million on a stadium just to lose a coach that makes them a contender, if Fleck elevates them to that level, to a team like Kentucky or Arkansas. It would probably require a blue blood to make an offer that would be too much for Minnesota to beat

Yes, I was referring to a blue blood. So maybe not 'just SEC', but anyone from Notre Dame and Florida, to Texas and USC.
